We are pleased to recognize that Dr. Antonacci was again awarded the prestigious Russell Hibbs Award by the Scoliosis Research Society, for his research on treating Spinal Cord Injuries using stem cells. Dr. Antonacci has been twice awarded with such an honor by the Scoliosis Research Society, making him one of a select few individuals worldwide that has achieved this honor. The Scoliosis Research Society is the preminant Spine Society for spine deformity surgeons and researchers internationally. He received the award in 2001 and 2003. Dr. Antonacci has also received national award recognition for his work by the Cervical Spine Research Society and the American Spinal Injury Association.
July, 2008. Dr. Antonacci spoke in Hong Kong at an international meeting for spinal surgeons. He was invited to present his work on scoliosis deformity surgery in children. His data highlighted the importance of not only correcting the typical "S" curve of scoliosis, but also restoring the normal forward roundness of the thoracic area during scoliosis surgery. His work showed that in comparison to others, attention to restoring this curve, allows improved correction of neck balance. Dr. Antonacci’s work on this has now been accepted for presentation to other spine surgeons at the annual meeting of the Scoliosis Research Society in Salt Lake City, Utah in September; and at the North American Spine Society Meeting in Toronto in October.
