Testimonials

"Being told you or a family member should consider undergoing spinal surgery can be overwhelming. Finding the right spinal surgeon can be daunting, and patients will often feel helpless and afraid in this process. On the other hand, patients who have undergone successful spinal surgery are often the most grateful of all patients. Sometimes hearing this from someone other than your surgeon helps. So many of my patients have expressed their thoughts below in order to help those going through this process. I feel a great privilege to be the recipient of my patients' trust, and am honored to be a part of their recoveries."

After suffering with severe nerve pain in my left leg for about 2 months, I had no choice but to find out what was causing such a severe and scary pain. My leg was numb and tingling at the same time. It was becoming more difficult to do daily chores, work was becoming an issue and I had to get relief soon. I had painful weakness in my left ankle and no amount of rest/medication was helping me. I was scared.

After going to a local orthopedic group and had MRI testing, I was diagnosed with "Severe Spondylosis". I had suffered all my life with varying degrees of back/leg pain and my posture was always somehow "crooked".

Dr. Antonacci was recommended to me (thank goodness) and he confirmed the diagnosis. Dr. Antonacci indicated that if I didn’t have the operation as soon as possible I could develop "drop foot" and really have an issue trying to walk.

In spite of all my anxiety and fears, and believe me I had a lot, Dr. Antonacci’s concern and down right assurance and confidence that he could help me won me over immediately. His soft spoken discussion with me and my husband gave us the confidence we needed to have this "spine" surgery performed. I put all my faith into Dr. Antonacci’s ability to get me walking again pain free and he did just that. He is a wonderful surgeon and person who is my personal "angel".

On Friday May 20, 2011 Dr. Antonacci performed the surgery at Princeton Medical Center. The hospital and staff were so caring and attentive to me. I cannot thank them enough for how I was treated and cared for.

A special thanks goes to Joel who was instrumental in this period of my life. He was always available to immediately take our calls, or called back within minutes. He is a wonderful person that guided us through the days prior to and after my surgery answering any and all questions or concerns. Thankfully I did not have many concerns at all.

Thanks again to Dr. Antonacci and his staff.

Your grateful patient,

To say that I am grateful to my surgeon, Dr. Antonacci, for giving me a new life really doesn't say enough. I bless him every day because every day I am able to sit, stand, run, sleep, and enjoy life once again because I am PAIN FREE! How can you really thank someone enough for that? I am 70 years old and I feel like my youth has been given back to me. That is surely a gift that deserves the ultimate praise!

A year ago I came to the Lawrenceville office after finding Dr. Antonacci's bio on the internet. I knew I wanted an experienced NYC doctor, to perform spinal surgery, if need be. I had tried everything to avoid surgery: spinal injections, special exercises, rest, but things were just getting worse. I had been to three or four doctors in my NJ area for opinions, had x-rays and an MRI. I had even gone to a meeting of the Lazer Spine Association, for minimal invasive surgery, a kind of far out program not approved by the AMA, and not covered by my Blue Cross insurance. Dr. Antonacci was the only doctor of the many I have seen, who told me that he absolutely could help me and that my situation was very treatable. His manner was upbeat and positive, and he assured me that he had a wealth of experience in treating arthritic spinal Stenosis, and that he had performed many, many surgeries of the kind. I felt very certain, more than with all the other doctors I had consulted, that I was safe in his hands.

So, on November 4th, 2011, I entered the Medical Center at Princeton, and Dr. Antonacci performed my surgery: two laminectomies on L4 & L5 and a half on L3, removing all the arthritis and thus opening up the spinal cord canal. The next day, Nov. 5th, I was released from the hospital and went to my home. After a few weeks recovery, I could move completely free from pain.

Now that you know my story, you understand why I can assure anyone needing a doctor for spinal problems, that in choosing Dr. Darryl Antonacci, you have chosen the absolute best there is.

Gratefully,
Marilyn P., 70 y/o, Scotch Plains, NJ

I have suffered for many years with low back pain. I have had two pinched nerves and numerous epidurals and minimal invasive surgeries. In 2007, one of the pinched nerves was so bad I ended up having a spinal fusion on L4 and L5. It was good for about six months when the pain reoccurred. I went back to a pain management doctor and started having epidurals again to keep me at bay. After a while they stopped helping and I knew I needed something more.

I started looking for a doctor who could help me. I went to three different surgeons, but wasn't happy with them. Then I was fortunate to have met a patient of Dr. Antonacci, who highly recommended I see him. At my first visit, he explained I had spondyllolisthesis and severe spinal stenosis. He was very confident he could help me have a better quality of life. Dr. Antonacci was very understanding and compassionate to all my apprehensions and concerns about having another surgery. (The first spinal fusion in 2007 was not a pleasant experience.) I felt so good about him and Dr. Cuddihy, I booked the surgery the same day. Dr. Antonacci's method of doing this surgery is much different than my first one. He assured me my recovery would be much easier, safer, and I would walk straight when I get better.

I had my surgery October 21, 2011, and in two days I was home and didn't need a walker. Fortunately, I never got sick and was out doing errands in about three weeks, with my husband driving, just like he said. I'm amazed how different the two surgeries were. I'm still recovering. It takes a long time, but I'm able to get around and drive, with only a small amount of pain compared to before.

I can't thank Dr. Antonacci, Dr. Cuddihy, Allison, Joel, Chris and Michele enough for all their support and care I have received. They are truly wonderful, very caring and professional people. I feel very blessed to have found the perfect team.

Very truly yours,

THANK YOU Dr. Antonacci, you saved my life. I am extremely grateful for all you have done for me. When I thought I had no where to turn for help you were there.

I am 61 years old and in February 2011 Dr. Antonacci operated on me. I am fortunate to have had such a nationally renowned Spinal Surgeon helping me. He is a miracle man. Because of Dr. Antonacci I am now able to stand straight with no pain.

I had childhood scoliosis that was never treated and worsened throughout my life I also had several spinal fractures and slipped disk problems over the years. I couldn't stand straight nor was I able to walk correctly. In addition, I was diagnosed with MS when I was 38. My symptoms are primarily a weakness on my left side.

Because of this condition I had a slumped posture. I was in constant agony with back and neck pain. My entire structure became so bent and twisted that my frame and rib cage were actually pressing against my pelvis. The pain was astounding.

Over the years I had seen several doctors but no one could help me. After a comprehensive evaluation Dr. Antonacci determined he could and would help me. I felt very assured that I was under the care of a top-notch professional surgeon.

The operation was long and comprehensive. During the surgery several other highly qualified professionals assisted him. He used 17 Titanium Rods to correct my spine. Practically every vertebra was fixed.

In addition, he installed scaffolding, attached to the spine to support my collapsed left side. He was very thorough and on top of everything. The operation was a huge success. My family was very confident that Dr. Antonacci would be able to help me and pleased we were all so pleased with the outcome.

What a pleasure it is now to stand straight, without pain. My posture has dramatically improved. I am walking much better. I have regained 2 inches in height. I sit straight. I am more positive and I am physiologically happier.

I was very impressed with Dr. Antonacci's great staff. His top assistant Joel was always available 24 / 7 to answer any questions or concerns. Joel is very knowledgeable, assuring, and comforting. Joel was a big part in helping me. Also, Chris, his office assistant was great help with all of the paperwork, tests appointments, and guidance in all that I needed to do.

Dr. Antonacci and his staff were a pleasure to work with. I will be forever thankful and grateful to Dr. Antonacci for everything that he has done to give me a better life.

If you need any spinal surgery, Dr. Antonacci is the best one to do it.

Sincerely,
Salvatore B., 61 y/o, Hamilton, NJ

I had to send you this "Thank You" note because I missed the opportunity to say "Thank You" in person during my last appointment on October 4th. At the time I didn't realize that I was being dismissed and that was my final visit with you until I was back in the waiting room.

I just have to thank you for the wonderful job you did with bringing me back to a normal life by straightening out my back problems. So, I'm sending you this card to tell you that I'm very thankful and appreciative and blessed to have had the opportunity to find you and Dr. Chiurco and to have you as my doctors.

This is the best I can do now since I can't give you a handshake or a hug; but I will always remember you and I pray that God will always bless you for your good works.

Sincerely,
J. Vereen, 69 y/o, Lawrenceville, NJ

Dr. Antonacci is blessed with a gift that I'm grateful he shares with those of us fortunate enough to have him as our surgeon. Before my surgery I would not know from one step to the next when pain would almost bring me to my knees. Getting up from a chair, stepping down from a curb or just standing would be a roll of the dice if I was going to be pain free in the next moment.

Baking and cooking, which I love to do, became difficult as I couldn't stand long enough to bake a simple batch of cookies... Thanks to Dr. Antonacci I am now pain free. We just enjoyed our shore vacation walking the boardwalk and going on rides. I'm back to baking and cooking for our family and enjoying every minute of it. I have come to appreciate each thing I do now so much more knowing that I no longer suffer from pain. There are no words to express my gratitude for the skill, kindness and overall care I received from Dr. Antonacci. When you meet with Dr. Antonacci it's like being with family because he so warm and makes you very comfortable.

Dr. Antonacci also has exceptional staff that are very warm, helpful and very supportive.

Thank you Dr. Antonacci, Joel and Chris.

Dr. Antonacci performed Spinal Fusion on my L-4, L-5 discs on August 1, 2011. In 2006, Dr. Antonacci performed a laminectomy on my Mom, who was 71 years old at the time. She couldn't walk a block to the grocery store. After the surgery, she's back to herself and doing her one- mile walk every morning, pain-free.

My symptoms were a constant and severe pain from lower back into right butt, radiating down leg, tingling in calf and a numb foot. I also had a terrible burning pain in lower back and spasms during sleep. I endured this for 8 months, thinking it was a pinched nerve and would get better with physical therapy.

When I finally sought treatment from Dr. Antonacci, and after CAT scan, MRI, etc., he diagnosed a collapsed disc. We scheduled a spinal fusion for August 1, 2011 in Mount Sinai in NYC. Dr. Antonacci, Dr. Cuddihy, an Joel, PA (Physician's Assistant), explained the procedure very clearly and in words I could understand. My telephone calls to the office were always answered or promptly returned. They all genuinely cared.

When I awoke from the surgery, all pain from lower back to foot was gone. Gone! I was amazed. I didn't realize how bad the pain was until I was free from it. Of course, when I awoke, the incision was a bit uncomfortable, but this has since disappeared.

It's almost a month after surgery and I can't believe I endured such pain and now it's completely gone. My dogs couldn't be happier now that they're going for their walks again.

Aside from being a bit stiff in the morning, I feel like I never even had back surgery. Amazing. Thank you Dr. Antonacci, Dr. Cuddihy and Joel. You are angels on earth.

Warmly,
Patricia S., 55 y/o, Marion, NY

I would like to start out by saying THANK -YOU to Dr. Antonacci and Joel for my now pain free life. At the age of 64 AND 11 mo., Dr. Antonacci operated on me and inserted 2 rods that would hold my entire spine in place while it fused.

I had been seen by several doctors prior to my visit with Dr. Antonacci, one even told me, and "I would not touch your back with a 10 foot pole".

I feel that my care, both pre op and post op, was of the highest level possible.

For me the deciding factors for using Dr. Antonacci were his very informative web site, his confidant demeanor and the assurance that HE would be doing the surgery with the assistance of top notch professionals.

Both Dr. Antonacci and Joel were always available to answer any questions or concerns. Joel would check in a few times a day while I was in the hospital. That was so comforting.

I would be remiss if I did not mention the office staff. Chris was so helpful with all the paper work, tests appointments and guidance in all that I needed to do.

Again, I thank Dr. Antonacci and his entire team for my new -pain free- life.

I would like to share the experience I had with Dr. Antonacci and his staff.

About 6 years ago I had surgery for spinal stenosis. This surgery was not with Dr. Antonacci, but it was successful and I was pain free for a while.

About a year ago I started having pain in my legs, especially my thighs. I returned to my original surgeon. He sent me for an MRI. When this doctor read the MRI he said "you have a big problem, and I can't help you." He sent me on my way with a prescription for pain medication and feeling like I was just going to deal with this pain forever. This was unacceptable because at the time I could not even make it through Shoprite!

Fortunately I remembered the diagnosis, "spondylolisthesis". I looked on line and found several surgeons listed. Dr. Antonacci's credentials were impressive as were his testimonials.

During my first visit Dr. Antonacci told me exactly what he was going to do. He made me feel confident that he was more than comfortable performing this surgery.

I was closely followed during my post-op recovery. There was always someone to answer questions and to be encouraging.

Dr. Antonacci, Dr. Cuddihy and Joel — I thank you. Now I cannot only make it through Shoprite, I can do the mall several times over.

Since I was diagnosed with scoliosis in my teens, I thought I would have to just live with it. But the curvature kept progressing and in my thirties it wasn't just an unsightly deformity, which I was hiding under my clothes, it started to affect my everyday activities. At 36 I had more and more days, which turned into weeks, when I was unable to exercise, walk in the park or even do dishes standing by the sink. I was forced to skip social occasions and shun traveling or concerts, because of my back pain. It got so bad, that I decided to visit an orthopedist again after many years.

With a significant curvature of over 50 degrees both in lumbar and thoracic spine I knew what my options were, so I was not shocked when the first doctor strongly suggested surgery. After thorough research I decided to go through with it, however I did not feel comfortable with a surgeon whose experience in scoliosis was very limited.

I found Dr Antonacci via Scoliosis Research Society, where he is highly recommended as well as on many patient forums online. Already during my first visit with Dr Antonacci I knew I wanted him to perform the surgery. His experience and knowledge and his personality put me at ease, and right away I knew I was in good hands.

Dr Antonacci not only fixed my back, but gave me a whole new lease on life. At 37, just three months after the surgery I had my first professional modeling gig and I am working towards what I am sure is going to be the best shape of my life. I was off of pain medication in 3 and a half weeks and did not need any since. Today, 4 months post surgery I still have few restrictions, but I am basically self sufficient and back to walking 5 mile distances in little over an hour. Thank you very much Dr Antonacci, Dr Cuddihy, Joel and Chris from NJ office! You rock!

I am writing four weeks after discharge from Mt. Sinai Hospital where Dr. Antonacci and his team, consisting of Laura Cuddihy, M.D. and Joel Gorenstein, P.A., performed extensive scoliosis surgery on me. I am a 57 year old woman, born with a congenital scoliosis, first diagnosed at the age of 4 and monitored throughout childhood by orthopedic professionals at teaching hospitals. During my adolescent growth spurt, when the danger of my curvature escalating greatly was maximal, my parents elected to avoid "Milwaukee" bracing and/or surgery and sent me instead to a chiropractor 3 times per week for two years. This appeared to stabilize the situation. Although my curvature was somewhat visible I did not experience much pain from it during my twenties and thirties.

My forties and fifties, however, were an entirely different story. My curvature worsened, I developed an extremely visible "hump" on my back, and a limp that caused people to ask daily, "Are you okay". My legs were uneven in length; one hip was flat and the other extremely curvaceous. The left side of my rib cage was sitting on my hip. My internist noted that I had lost over two inches in height. I began to feel that I looked like a freak more and more each day. My two adopted children, ages 10 and 15, though too tactful to say so, were becoming embarrassed about being seen with me in public, or so it felt. More importantly, I was in chronic, often very severe pain. Simple necessary responsibilities such as cooking were becoming almost impossible to execute. In fact, making dinner required that I go to bed for the night....just too painful to stay erect.

My internist referred me to Dr. Antonacci's practice in Princeton, New Jersey and I went to the appointment never expecting that surgery was a possibility at my age. I assumed he would refer me for physical therapy. Instead, he recommended surgery. I was floored, but there was something reassuring and modest as well as substantive about his manner. I left "considering" it and phoned a friend whose uncle, Dr. Xethalis, is a well-known orthopedist specializing in "knees" in New York City. I asked my friend to call his uncle to give me a name for a second opinion and "while you're at it, please ask if he's ever heard of an orthopedist named M. Darryl Antonacci who practices in Princeton".

Within ten minutes, my friend called me back and said, "My uncle says if you're seeing Antonacci, you don't need a second opinion, it doesn't get better than that. He says Antonacci's a big guy in Manhattan and his practice is mostly in the City. My uncle says if Antonacci says you need surgery, you need surgery. But he'll give you a name of a spine guy for a second opinion if you really want one".

I took the name and went to see the second orthopedist recommended by my friend's uncle. He too suggested that surgery was my only true alternative. Unlike Dr. Antonacci, however, this man's bedside manner was not tactful (he must have referred to me and my spine at least ten times during the consult as "deformed" and "deformity") and his approach to my surgery was not thoughtful or conservative, in the way that Dr. Antonacci's was. In contrast, I would come away from my consultations with Dr. Antonacci aware of my strengths rather than my "deformities". "Look how even your shoulders are in spite of everything, you have compensated very well". He was not patient in the way that Dr. Antonacci was in explaining, and re-explaining the medical basis of what surgery would involve. For a novice like me, terrified at what was entailed, I needed multiple explanations, and Dr. Antonacci took as much time and repetition as I required.

I first consulted Dr. Antonacci in mid-winter and soon thereafter made the decision to get the surgery; however, I set the date for mid-June. During that time Dr. Antonacci recommended that I participate in physical therapy to strengthen my core and extremities so as to better tolerate the surgery, as well as to have stronger legs and arms with which to compensate for not being able to bend my back during my convalescence.

This is where the "personal concierge service" of Dr. Antonacci's office took over. A woman named Chris handled every aspect of pre-certification required in my case, from pre-authorizing my physical therapy to any of the pre-operative examinations (CT scans, myelograms etc.) that Dr. Antonacci needed, as well as the hospitalization and surgery itself. I never spoke one single time with my insurance company. All was handled for me. Any time I had a question, Dr. Antonacci's office took my calls immediately or returned them within the day. The very first day that I met Joel Gorenstein, he gave me his cell phone number so that I could reach him any time.

Once in the hospital, Joel greeted me in "scrubs" to say hello and reassure me, and soon I was brought to the anesthesiologist, whose team was extremely respectful, reassuring and competent and 7 and a half hours later I awoke in Recovery. Friends and other lay people had told me how uncomfortable everything would be especially the first little while in Recovery, but frankly, I was on sufficient medication that I remember being very calm and surrounded by flanks of capable doctors and nurses. I was not in very much pain and I did not feel in the least frightened. I was told that the surgery has been successful, had ended at 7:30 p.m., and that Dr. Antonacci and his team had gone home for the night and would see me the next day.

The next morning at 7 a.m. Dr. Cuddihy was there checking up on me. Every day, either she, Joel, or Dr. Antonacci came to check on me, always looking fresh, energetic and professional. With my surgery on Monday, I was discharged on Saturday. During this time, Dr. Antonacci and his surgical team handled my family's questions, including some delicate family matters, with great tact, wisdom and care. They gave just the right amount of information needed — neither too much nor too little — for my relatives to absorb.

Four weeks later, at home now, I still hold up a hand-mirror to my large bathroom mirror so that I can see my back. The results are simply unbelievable. I have a straight back!! No more hump at all! My left rib cage no longer sits on my left hip; it's at the same height as the right side of my rib cage. My hips are even and they are equally curvaceous, instead of one being flat and the other overly curvy. I have my "old" height back; I'm 5' 5" again, just like I used to be. I am not ashamed and humiliated about myself anymore!! My ten year old daughter proclaimed, "Mom, your back looks fantastic!!" I really could cry of happiness.

As to the recovery, I really can't tell you too much about that since I'm only four weeks into it, but with pain-management medications that have been prescribed by Dr. Antonacci's team, it's definitely quite tolerable. I have to wear a brace during the day probably for several months (we'll know more after Dr. Antonacci takes X-rays in another few weeks), I can't drive or do much around the house in terms of chores because I have to wait for the bones in their newly arranged positions to fuse on to the rods, bolts and pins which Dr. Antonacci has inserted. But what a small price to pay for what will be a pain-free life within 3 to 6 months, and a normal-looking, dare I say, even a pretty body?

To Dr. Antonacci and your Team and Office Staff, there are not existing words in the English language to express my gratitude. A long and difficult surgery completed smoothly and successfully, the cosmetic results exceeding even what Dr. Antonacci had told me to expect.

Thank you with my whole heart,

P S.: I am happy to talk with any person considering this type of surgery.

In April, my wife and I visited you for a second opinion as to whether I should have another operation to remove the screws and other items put in place during spinal fusion surgery.

My wife and I both remember how kind and thoughtful you were the day we visited, taking time to talk with us and allow time for many questions and to show us the CT scan over and over again. You said the operation site (done elsewhere) wasn't perfect but wasn't that bad either. In the end, you said you didn't think the operation was necessary. My decision was not that difficult. I decided not to have the operation.

My wife and I were so impressed that we tell friends about the visit all of the time.

So far, so good. I continue to be pain free and have gotten stronger over the past few months. My wife and I walk frequently, and I can go a mile or two without any problem (except sometimes I get winded).

Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

On behalf of myself and family, I wanted to say thank you so very much for all your help last Tuesday.

My parents and I were so shook up by what we heard or lack thereof, I should say, and your attentiveness and genuine caring was a breath of fresh air.

In life's journey it is not too often that you meet someone who is a complete stranger and guides you in the right direction. The woman who referred us to Dr. Antonacci was a god send; and equally fortunate for the second time in one day to meet you, another god send. Your calming words, taking the time to listen to us and your proactive assistance was truly amazing — and greatly appreciated!

Thank you and please thank Dr. Antonacci for his wealth of expertise that he shared with us. My entire family is so appreciative of Dr. Antonacci taking the time to see my Dad on such short notice. He is a true credit to the medical profession, totally going above and beyond.

When we entered your office we were all scared and not sure what was going on with my Dad and because of you and Dr. Antonacci, we are calm and confident that my Dad is in the best place possible concerning his care.

Please thank Chris for arranging the appointment with the Neurosurgeon for the very next day!

I will always be eternally grateful for your kindness and wonderful calming words and smile.

Thank you.

I was sixteen when I found out I had scoliosis. I was fitted for a brace that went from my neck down to my hips which I wore for two years. After that I was told that the degree of my curve did not require surgery. Life went on. I got married, had four children and a very busy and active life.

At the age of 45 I started having back pain and just thought it was natural as you get older. As each year went by the pain got worse and I noticed I was leaning more and more to the right side. By the time I was 53, the pain was so bad that it interfered with every day life.. I could not even stand long enough in the morning to blow dry my hair without resting in between. Every day tasks such as cleaning, cooking, working and exercising became very painful.

I decided to see a doctor. He took an x-ray and told me that I had scoliosis. I told him I was diagnosed with it when I was 16. He told me I had progressive scoliosis and that my curve measured between 70 degrees and 80 degrees. I tried physical therapy and many different medications. I was then told that he could not help me because my only option at this point was surgery and he did not know of any doctors that performed scoliosis surgery on adults. I was told to go home and get my affairs in order. My scoliosis would keep progressing and I would lose the use of my legs and be in a wheel chair. I was devastated. I sought out several other doctors and got the same story from all of them. I was not ready to accept that.

I decided to do some research on the internet hoping to find someone to help me. That is where I found Dr. Antonacci. I called and got an appointment within two weeks. When Dr. Antonacci walked in the room and started talking to me and told me that he could help me I felt like I had finally had hope. He explained the surgery to me and told me that I could take my time and make up my mind whether or not I wanted to have the surgery. I told him I didn't have to think about it. I had no doubt in my mind that he knew exactly what he was doing and was very good at it. He was very knowledgeable and kind and made me feel at ease. I was ready to schedule my surgery. I went and talked with Joel, his assistant. He has the patience of a saint. He spent at least an hour with me explaining the surgery and recovery and answered every question I had in his very kind and compassionate manner. After seeing Joel I went to see Chris at the front desk who took care of scheduling my surgery and working everything out with my insurance company. You will always get a smile and warm welcome from her.

I had my surgery on October 5, 2010 and it was the best decision I ever made. I was back to work in 5 months. I now live every day to the fullest and pain free. I forgot what that was like. Thank you Dr. Antonacci for giving me my life back. I thank God every day that I found you. I would highly recommend Dr. Antonacci to anyone.

At the age of 82, I felt so fortunate to be able to enjoy my Golden Years, especially my garden and crabbing and clamming on Barnegat Bay. Suddenly I started experiencing low back pain and severe pain in my lower body, legs and feet. I saw two orthopedic doctors and also a pain management physician. An MRI showed a fractured vertebrae and degenerated lower back were causing my spinal stenosis. My pain was devastating. I was no longer able to take care of myself. Both physicians said I was not a good candidate for surgery (because of my age) and could not operate on me. Needless to say, I was very disappointed.

My family had heard of Dr. Antonacci. After viewing his website we immediately made an appointment. When I met with Dr. Antonacci and told him of my situation, he said "Yes, I can fix your problems." He gave me hope! I looked at him and said, "I'm ready."

It is 3 months since my surgery and I am pain free. I am so grateful to Dr. Antonacci. He gave me my life back. Words cannot convey what I feel. Thank You from the bottom of my heart. God Bless you.

My thanks to Joel for his help and patience with our phone calls and his encouragement through this experience. Also my thanks to Christine and the Office Staff. Their expertise made the whole process go so smoothly.

Relief! Relief is all I can say now that my surgery and pain are both finally behind me.

As a child I developed scoliosis and at the age of fourteen I had corrective surgery. Like many scoliosis patients in the 1970's I had spinal fusion and a Harrington Rod placed, then wore a body cast for 9 months, a time in my life I will never forget. Thirty years and two children later my back was broken again! I started with pain down my legs, and then to my lower back. The pain continued to worsen, so about 6 years ago I started to look for medical treatment, surgery in my mind was not an option, and it terrified me. From every doctor, all I heard was long surgery, long recovery, bracing and after all that, not sure if I would be pain free. With two children and working I decided to put my back problems on hold and continue to suffer. My pain continued. It was difficult for me to get through a 12 hour shift at work, go shopping with my girls, garden, or exercise anymore.

The pain was taking over my life and affecting the way I was walking. So July of 2010 I started my research again to find someone who could relieve my pain and comfort my fears. I met with Dr. Antonacci first and immediately felt so comfortable with him, almost too good to be true. Of course I went for a second and even third opinion, there was no doubt that I was making the right decision when I chose Dr. Antonacci. He relieved many of my worries; his technique in performing the surgery appealed to me, less invasiveness definitely leads to less pain and a faster recovery, all good things.

The surgical experience was terrifying for me, but Dr. Antonacci and his Physician Assistant Joel were always quick to calm my nerves and were very reassuring. I am almost 5 months post-op now and feeling great! The day after my surgery I was out of bed walking, not well, but walking. Immediately I noticed I was standing straighter, I had discomfort from the surgery but that grueling back pain was gone. The first 2-3 weeks post-op were difficult, but each day I increased the amount I was walking and every day my surgical pain was less.

I am a Registered Nurse and I am starting back at work, (actually looking forward to working not being in pain), back to shopping with my girls and exercising. I am cautious in doing many things, but my life has improved in so many ways. I am so thankful every day I wake up pain free.

The entire experience over the last 6 months has been hassle free. From my first appointment where Chris had to help me get all my x-rays completed, to all my paper work and disability forms, everything was done quickly and efficiently.

I was extremely nervous to have this surgery, but with the right Doctor it is so worth it!

After many years of debilitating back problems and failed steroids and epidural injections, I consulted with Dr. Antonacci for a consultation of what would be my next options.

Dr. Antonacci explained in detail about what I could expect from surgery and what not to expect in a way that I could understand. He was very patient and personable.

I traveled from Linwood, NJ to Princeton to see Dr. Antonacci, and the trip was well worth it. I also would like to say that his office staff was very helpful and kind.

I would like to thank Dr. Antonacci and his staff for all their help and kindness, and highly recommend him to anybody considering back surgery.

Several years of spinal injections came to an end when it was no longer possible to tolerate the unbearable pain in my back.

Dr. Antonacci, recognizing my progressive problems of lumbar decompressions and stenosis, carefully and patiently explained why it was the right time for surgery. I needed my life restored and felt he was the right doctor to operate and correct these problems — indeed he did!

The day after surgery, I was able to lift myself out of bed and walk the hospital floor — by myself. I improved more each day. Everyone helped, cared and showed kindness and concern. Once home, I followed easy instructions and was out and about in less than two weeks.

I'm 74 years of age and can look forward to a future.

Thank you Dr. Antonacci!!!

This testimonial is for Dr. Antonacci who along with his entire staff gave my wife back her life. During the time frame of September, 2009 thru and until his procedure of Labor Day weekend 2010, she tried anything to get pain free and simply walking. She tried pain relievers from Orthopedic Surgeons. She went to pain management centers for epidurals. She went to a surgeon in Philadelphia that wanted to open her up, front and back to build up the spine. This procedure didn't insure any more success than previous options. Then our physician recommended Dr Antonacci. He immediately said that because she had such a degenerative back, building the back with rods and screws would probably cause more problems. He suggested that we strive to get her body, pain free, and able to walk normally.

Dr Antonacci performed spinal stenosis surgery using limited decompression technique. Virtually no blood loss, no cutting muscles, and most important he was in and out, in about an hour. Whatever pain the procedure created was far less than what she went through the past year. She is a 65 year old person, who is active. The procedure was done late Friday afternoon. She was home Sunday and the discomfort was tolerable. She has her life back. We travel freely and she has started doing Pilates.

So, thank you Dr Antonacci and Joel and the entire staff at the Lawrenceville, NJ office.

Warmest regards,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the incredible surgery performed by you on my back on November 15, 2010.

I went to see you in early October and I was scheduled at a different hospital to correct by back problem. It was going to be a very extensive surgical procedure with a long recuperation period. Upon my visit to see you I was informed that the procedure would be less invasive and a shorter recuperation period.

Needless to say, I was very pleased with the excellent results. My recuperation was quick and I was back enjoying my life within two weeks with no back pain. You literally gave me back my life - to say thank you does not seem to be enough. I will continue to recommend you highly and once again, you have my total admiration.

Sincerely,

I would like to express my sincere thanks to you for giving me my quality of life back.

I had suffered from reoccurring stenosis for over thirty-five years until I found you. As I got older the stresses of daily life, work and activities I enjoy started to diminish. I was in a constant state of concern for my physical health and my ability to function at work and at home. At 59, I didn't want to create a physical burden to my family because of my health.

I had previous conversations and evaluations from many fine orthopedic and neurological surgeons. I never had the confidence to go forward with any type of surgery based on those discussions. So, I endured the discomfort for many years.

I have tried all the "typical" remedies for my condition ranging from chiropractic to herbal supplements with minimal positive results. All this came to a head when I was in my kitchen in August of 2009 and I experienced a sharp shooting pain in my back while picking up a pill from the floor. At this point I searched for someone that could help me with my condition. I found your website and completed the Case Review and was pleased to hear from your office that you would discuss and evaluate my lower back problem.

I met you and as the office visit progressed, I had the sense that you would be able to successfully help me get back to a normal life. I felt even more secure in the detailed evaluations leading up to your thorough diagnosis. Your explanation of the minimally invasive surgical technique you use to eliminate the reoccurring stenosis help to make my decision to go-ahead with the surgery. You answered my questions and concerns completely and honestly and explained the risks with the type of surgery to be done. I never had any doubts that my surgery would be a complete success.

My life as a Physical Education Teacher and Coach has been renewed thanks to your exceptional skills as a surgeon. From the time I came out of recovery, I have not experienced any stenosis in my legs. My mobility and flexibility are as good as I had years before and most of all I have the confidence to participate in any activity I choose to do.

I can cycle, play golf, strength train, do various types of cardio training and this past winter I shoveled quite a bit of snow with no ill effects!

I am sincerely grateful to you for giving me my life back. I don't know where I'd be right now if I didn't have my back repaired.

I would and have recommended you to people I have discussions with that have a back problem. I thank you again for everything you've done for me.

My name is Joe. I'm a 46 year old male who was involved in a motor vehicle accident in which my car was rear ended at a high rate of speed as I was stopped in traffic n on the NJTPK on 07/18/07. I sustained an injury to my lower back which would cause an electrifying shooting pain up and down my extremities.

I was under the care of several physicians. My treatment consisted of physical therapy and PENS treatments none of which provided me with any relief. The options available to me were clear. They included epidural injections, surgery or continue to live with pain. I knew that the injections would only prolong the inevitable which was the need for surgery. In order to make that decision, I needed to do some research and find a physician with the highest skills in his or her field with a solid reputation and impeccable credentials. I finally made my decision to opt for surgery which was in December 2010.

I found Dr. M. Darryl Antonacci who has extensive surgical experience not only in spine surgeries in general but in complex reconstructive spine surgery including minimally invasive fusion techniques which is what I required. He and his physician assistant, Joel, were immensely helpful throughout the entire process, from pre-admission testing to the actual surgery and recovery thereafter. This was the first surgery I have undergone and having this team by my side eased a lot of the anxiety and stress. I would whole heartedly recommend, Dr. Antonacci and his staff, 7 days a week and twice on Sundays.

Finally, for those who have never been treated at the Hospital in Princeton I highly recommend this hospital. The highest level of service was provided to me by the entire staff. Special mention should be given to the impeccable team of nurses, the anesthesiologist and the entire O/R staff.

Growing up, we are taught about the remarkable medical discoveries that have shaped the world. We learn the names of Linus Pauling and Marie Curie. In my world, Dr. M. Darryl Antonacci holds the same esteem.

Having defied surgery for over a decade, I had done severe damage to my spine that was fighting to keep me upright. I had lived with debilitating pain for so long, it became second nature. The day I decided to take the risk of surgery, was the day I saw my May 2010 chest x-ray. I did not go to my doctor for back pain, I went for my Aflac rebate. My doctor, like many before, looked at my x-ray and baulked. My spine was clearly 'S' shaped and twisted in the lumbar discs. He asked me, "How do you walk?" I felt like a freak of nature and a medical anomaly.

I honestly don't know what I would have done without the Internet. I simply googled "Top Scoliosis Surgeon." My case was severe enough to merit the expertise of Dr. Antonacci and I will forever be grateful to a man, who for some god forsaken reason, used his genius to help Scoliosis sufferers like me. I had the great fortune of having a man who has been given awards for innovation in Scoliosis surgery, actually FIX me. Having suffered through arthritis, stenosis, kyphosis, degenerative disc disease, herniations, nerve damage, I had been fed painkillers for over a decade just to keep me quite.

Thank you, Dr. Antonacci, for not cringing, nor baulking. I felt defeated until you offered me solution and resolution. I am forty years old and just three weeks after my nine vertebrae spine fusion, I feel so thankful for my straight spine. Dr. Antonacci's team, everyone in both offices, follow-up and treat you as a friend. For such a life changing event, I was really taken care of in regard to minimal paper work and hassle.

What Dr. Antonacci is to genius, Joel is to compassion and follow-up. I cannot believe that I equated spine surgery with "the end of my life" for twelve long years, and it truly was just the beginning!

As a registered nurse I spend most of my work hours on my feet. When I developed a problem with my back it made every step I took problematic. My back pain increased over a period of three years. I reached a point where I developed a pain that went across my lower back, down my thigh and traversing my knee. The pain down on the side of my right leg was agonizing and as time went on I developed a tingling and numbness of my right knee.

I had three falls due to loss of feeling in my legs. I initially thought I had a stroke. After a battery of tests a specialist confirmed that I had a condition called spinal stenosis. The pain was devastating. I questioned my ability to continue to earn a living. I set upon the task of seeking out the finest, knowledgeable and skilled surgeon to perform the procedure I knew I needed.

I was blessed to find a scoliatic spinal surgeon. Not just a skilled spinal surgeon but the BEST Scoliatic spinal surgeon Dr. M. Darryl Antonacci. When I told my friends and colleagues I was to have spinal surgery the look on their faces was one of horror. Their comments left me frightened but Dr. Antonacci's absolute self-confidence instilled in me the certainty to follow through with the procedure. Even Dr. Antonacci's choices of assisting physicians were individuals of comparable skill and knowledge.

I did my research and I made the right decision when I chose Dr. Antonacci. I was given back my life. I no longer worry about how I will make it through my day. No more sleepless nights due to ungodly pain. I was given a gift.

Words cannot fully express my thankfulness, my blessing of being pain free. I can walk, I can do my job and I am living my life as a RN!

Dr. Antonacci, I thank you so very much. You gave to me what is so very precious, my mobility and independence.

God Bless you Dearest Dr. Antonacci.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the successful surgery and treatment for my mother, Claire. As you are well aware, my mother came to your office seeking relief from her spinal stenosis and scoliosis almost two years ago. While caring for my mother and assisting her in seeking the right medical professional, I must say that your work, your staff and professionalism have netted another great success story that you may add to the list of many great surgeries you have and will continue to perform for patients in need.

You have successfully restored my mother's quality of life by eliminating the terrible pain that she had. The pain was degenerative and was certainly not getting any better by the time we decided to seek your opinion. I am certain that you understand the need for several medical opinions before committing to such an involved piece of surgery. Upon our second consultation with you, we decided that you were the doctor to help her. Many other opinions that were sought left my mother and I feeling hopeless upon leaving other doctors offices.

I have seen the benefits of your work and encourage anyone who is seeking an opinion from your practice to read this letter before leaving your office. I am sure that they will find your demeanor, understanding of the diseases of the back and the friendly staff, proof enough that your practice is, by far, the best in the area when it comes to reconstructive back surgery.

Again, I thank you for restoring the quality of life to my mother's life and hope that your practice continues to grow and be successful while you do what doctors are supposed to do: help people to improve their condition while restoring a patients quality of life.

Respectfully,

I am a 45 year old male and for the past three years I had been looking for a doctor that would help me with my terrible back problem...Every morning I would get up on my toes, feeling my body falling apart. My legs were not responding properly and the tingling was not pleasant. I have a desk job and sitting down all day was nothing comfortable and standing did not make much of a difference. Lying down on my back was the only hope but not a solution.

Searching for a solution on the Web (How things Work Website) took me directly to Dr Antonacci's page. Watching the animations on his page prompted me to call for an appointment. After meeting with Dr Antonacci, I was diagnosed with Lumbar Degenerative Disease. Dr Antonacci really took his time to find what exactly my problem was. I was referred for pain injections but nothing worked. And I finally made the decision for an Invasive Fusion procedure. It was a hard decision but Dr Antonacci really made me feel confident. Joel, his assistant, a very patient individual, very professional and with great disposition, made me see things from a different perspective.

On May 17, 2010 I went through the procedure. Today, 3 months after, I am totally a different man, functioning almost at 100%.

I am living a normal and painless life, doing my workout with no difficulties and I can sit or stand for as long as I want with no problem. Dr Antonacci there is no other way I can thank you for a well job done, but recommending you to those people dealing with the same problem

Thank You Doc.

Hello! How are you? I'm doing very well. My back has healed quite a lot in the past 2 years! There are still a few sore spots, but I expect that they'll recover when they are ready! Anyway, I have grown two and a half inches since you last saw me and I'm expecting to grow two more (you said that I gained four inches from the surgery).

Anyhow, I wanted to personally thank you for fixing my spine! It feels great to breathe again without any pain! It's been two years to the day and I feel like I can do just about anything! Of course, I'm still getting used to having rods (especially during thunder storms), but I'm just glad to finally have a great posture!

So,thanks again Dr. Antonacci!

Have you ever not been able to find the right words to thank someone for their help? That's how I feel about Dr. Antonacci. He took away neck & head pain accompanied by sick headaches that lasted over a year. I worked with an ice pack around my neck and was on so many medications I really can't remember them all. That's all in the past since Dr. A did an anterior cervical disectomy. I'm able to live a normal life again! Something I didn't think would happen again.

Joel, his assistant is just wonderful, very caring and truly concerned with your questions. The office staff is professional and friendly. I never waited long periods of time for my appointments and we all know what a rare thing that is these days.

So Dr. A, thank you, thank you, for giving me back my life. God Bless You. I would highly recommend you to anyone.

As a 51 year old male, with a wife, 2 young daughters, and 2 teenage sons, it was no fun dealing with lower back pain on and off for the last 20-30 years. There seemed to be no end to the various kinds of non-surgical treatments, pills, chiropractic adjustments, and devices available in the marketplace that promised relief for chronic back pain. I could have spent another 10 years trying one thing after another. I wasn't considered a candidate for surgery — everyone wanted me to try this or that new procedure, exercise, physical therapy, epidural shots, acupuncture, disc decompression treatments, inversion tables, shoe inserts, oral cortisone regimens, etc.

Out of curiosity I started investigating surgical options for dealing with L4-L5 pain, and I was again amazed to find so many different "minimally invasive" procedures — anterior, posterior, or sideways disc removal techniques using various fusion and/or artificial disc hardware, or even a less evasive herniated discectomy. My local surgeons touted the latest and greatest advancements in minimally evasive procedures, but they felt I would be in MORE pain than I was in presently. They recommended I wait until my back got worse, that I was too young for lower back surgery, and it wasn't worth the risk. I had seen plenty of others with "failed" back surgeries, and that was something I did not want.

It wasn't until I saw the results obtained by my sister-in-law that I knew who to go to — Dr. Antonacci. He operated on her when other doctors couldn't or wouldn't. Other doctors told her she was too old for lower back surgery — they wanted her to continue all the other non-surgical procedures that everyone hawks. What Dr. Antonacci did was nothing short of a miracle, reconstructing her lumber so that within less than a year she had resumed her active lifestyle that included traveling several times a year.

In Octobor 2009 I met Dr. Antonacci for myself and learned that he has his own techniques for performing posterior spinal surgery that he has been perfecting over the years. Two months later (December 2009) he performed my posterior L4-L5 fusion. Immediately and every day afterwards I saw improvement.

It is now 6 months later (May , 2010) and I am able to do heavy workouts; pick up and tussle with my kids; mow and trim the lawn again; help coach 2 softball and soccer teams; play 18 holes of golf; row a boat for ½ an hour; and anything else I want to do without restriction. My back gets tired by the end of the day, but the next day it's ready to go again! My out of pocket expenses for the surgery, tests, and travel were under $500 - a lot less than I would have spent on all the other alternatives, and with real results!

If you're on the fence as to whether or not to have back surgery, I highly recommending seeing Dr. Antonacci. He's the best.

It has been 4½ months since my surgery for spinal stenosis, and I am feeling better than I have in a long time. The surgery went easily and I was home and recovering very shortly after.

My recovery went in the timetable you had advised, and sooner. I was back playing golf in 8 weeks, with no pain or after effects.

Your "bedside" manner and confidence were a great help to this 75 year old, in achieving the proper mental state so important to achieve a positive result and quick recovery from this very major surgery, and I can't thank you enough. I'm sure you will wind up seeing other people that I know with back problems, as I will highly recommend you.

Two years ago, my husband was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and because of his other health issues was told that there were no options left for him—he would eventually lose the use of his legs and live the rest of his life in a wheelchair. We immediately made an appointment with Dr. Antonacci for a "second" opinion. During our initial meeting with him, he gave us something no one else did—hope. In the months before the operation, he took every precaution, setting us up with some of the finest doctors who would be working with him, to insure that my husband's other health issues were addressed before, during, and after the surgeries.

Dr. Antonacci, because of his professionalism and caring, for each patient, gave my husband his life back. When I was diagnosed with a cervical spine problem and heard the word "surgery", I didn't hesitate to make an appointment with Dr. Antonacci—I wanted the best! As for myself, it has been seven weeks since the surgery and all of my initial symptoms have disappeared. I'm feeling better for the first time in six months. Thank you Doctor from the both of us.

Dr. M. Darryl Antonacci is highly professional and caring, and I heartedly recommend him to my friends and family. He has extensive knowledge of spine and scoliosis. The quality of care, attention to detail, customer "patient" service and professionalism of my doctor and his staff has provided me with state - of - the - art medical advice and care and I am eternally grateful.

I injured my neck, on the job, in July 2008 and got reinjured on January 21st, 2009. I am a 34 year old female with cervical spine and shoulder injuries. Neither Medical Doctors nor Chiropractors could alleviate my symptoms, which included severe pain in my neck, right shoulder, arm, and hand, numbness and pins and needles in my fingers, and muscle spasms. I had difficulty sleeping, studying, and performing most routine daily activities such as personal care, preparing meals, and riding in an automobile greatly aggravated the symptoms. My life became a vicious cycle of chronic pain and hopelessness.

After 8th months of waiting for approval from the Workman's Compensation Carrier I was granted approval for surgery. I pondered on the decision I had to make. I asked myself over and over, "if this surgery would alleviate my pains or make things worst"? On October 26th,2009 Dr D. Antonacci performed an Anterior Arthrodesis C4-5, C5-6, Anterior cervical discectomy C4-5, C5-6, Anterior plating C4-5, C5-6, Left iliac crest bone graft and prosthetic cage placement C4-5, C5-6.

I would like to thank Dr. Antonacci for having performed a very successful surgery. Also thank everyone associated with my treatment, including Joel Gorenstein and the staff at Mount Sinai Medical Center, I was treated very well. I have received wonderful results from the surgery he performed. I have improved dramatically my pains have completely vanished, and I have much more energy and regaining my strength. My right arm strength is improving and I am essentially without pain. I no longer feel that pressure sensation in my right posterior neck. And although I know I am not completely healed yet, I have very little limitation in the range of motion in my neck.

Now I have a new beginning to look forward to being able to regain at least 99 percent of my life, like a normal person, pain and medication free. I'll soon start college again and hope to return to work if Mount Sinai will have me once again as part of there staff.

When I went to see Dr. Antonacci for a "second" opinion, I expected a cursory tour of my past medical history and the inevitable recommendation for spinal surgery ASAP. The truth of the matter was that Dr. Antonacci was not my second opinion, or even my third. I had lived with chronic back pain for years that slowly progressed to be cumbersome and limiting to my normal activities. I had seen orthopods, neurosurgeons, sports medicine and rehab doctors in the past. I had repeated imaging studies, physical therapy sessions, and steroid injections. All of them came to the same conclusion: I needed surgical intervention to remedy my condition. I should probably mention that I am a physician practicing in the Princeton community for over 30 years. These practioners were my colleagues and contemporaries. I made informed decisions to see every one of them. I had opportunities to discuss my options with several surgeons, and ultimately I chose Dr. Antonacci to perform my surgery because I believed in him and his ability to fix my problem.

I walked into his office that day expecting the same discussion I had had with other surgeons. What went on was entirely different. He asked me pointed questions about my limitations, about my pain progression, what I could and what I could no longer do. He asked me what my understanding was of my disease and what I thought was the next step in improving current condition. He then went on and illustrated through my imaging studies and models on hand, what the pathology was in my spine and how he planned to fix them surgically. He was patient and knowledgeable as well as confident that he could perform what needed to be done. I knew then that he was the surgeon for me.

When asked to write a testimonial, I wholeheartedly agreed. I know that Dr. Antonacci was trained in the best spine centers in the country. I know that he currently keeps up to date in his field attending as well as lecturing about his specialty all over the country and the world. I know that he has an excellent staff, from his office support to his mid level practitioners (physician assistant). His choice in surgical centers offers the best in ancillary care and nursing care. All of these are really secondary to the fact that it is Dr. Antonacci himself that convinced me to agree to my procedure.

I am now approximately 12 weeks post surgery. My activities are so much different from where they were prior to the operation. I can walk miles without hesitation for the fear of pain. Though I am still in a rehabilitation phase, my wife and I went on a recent trip to Europe knowing that we could keep up and enjoy the sights on the tours. It is a great feeling to know that as I get older that I can still enjoy my life. I would recommend Dr. Antonacci to anyone considering surgery with out any reservations.

After being involved in a car accident this past June in which the other driver ran his stop sign, I began experiencing pain radiating down my right arm into my hand. This was followed by a persistent tingling sensation and, eventually, numbness. Within a month the numbness was occurring in my left arm and hand as well, and I had lost most of the ability to control the functions of both hands.

I returned to the orthopedist I had seen directly after the accident, who referred me to a cervical surgeon. Although he seemed competent enough, I did not feel that he was a good match for me. I did not get the impression that he understood what I was experiencing. I began looking for a second opinion.

A friend of mine recommended Dr. Antonacci's office. I contacted them and was given an appointment quickly. By this time I was constantly dropping things, and my quality of life had deteriorated. I could no longer enjoy anything because of the constant pain.

Dr. Antonacci gave me the respect and consideration I felt I needed to get me through this. He patiently answered all my questions, was thorough in his explanations of what the surgery would entail, and was patient with my nervousness and panicky tears (after all, this was my NECK!). He was honest in his expectations as well as the risk, and knew that I would get worse if I didn't address the problem soon. (He was right—one day not long before the surgery was scheduled, the numbness began in my right leg and I fell on the sidewalk.)

The day of the surgery his calm demeanor soothed my out of control nerves. While I was in recovery he found my partner in the waiting room, showed her the pictures of my new neck hardware, and explained everything that would be coming up for me—the recovery process, pain management, recuperation time, etc. As it was, I was able to go home the next day! My follow-up visit was an extension of the personalized care I had been given throughout this ordeal. Dr. Antonacci, Joel, and everyone else were always there for me. Thank you!!!

As a former professional dancer (San Francisco Ballet, Warner bros. musicals, Broadway) movement was second nature to me, as instinctive as breathing. Until it wasn't. Last year age, osteoarthritis, and a host of other spinal problems caught up with me and caused such pain I could no longer walk, sit or stand. I was immobilized and depressed. A failed spinal operation didn't help the situation.

Fortunately, several doctors recommended I see a Dr. Darryl Antonacci. Reluctantly I limped in with my cane, bent over like an old witch in a fairytale, all I needed was a wart on my nose. Dr. Antonacci explained the procedure he'd developed and the risks involved in careful detail. I took a deep breath and said, "O.K. Do it." Best decision I ever made. Today the pain is nearly gone, I'm walking upright, and improving every day. Thank you, Dr. Antonacci, you are a true virtuoso in solving spinal problems and I can now hear the music as I begin to walk again.

Where do I begin! My name is Jessica and I'm 21 years old. I found out that I had grade 3-4 spondylolisthesis last February 2008. I was experiencing extreme pain in my right leg, numbness in my left leg, and lower back pain that made it difficult to do normal, every day activities. Leaning over the sink to brush my teeth, sitting for long periods of time, bending over to pick things up off the ground and even sneezing would throw me to the floor in pain.

My condition reached the grade 3-4 level over the course of several years because it was overlooked by my primary care doctor and I had no idea I had this spinal condition. The only thing I knew was I was only 17 years old when the leg pain began, and each year I felt more and more pain until life in general was miserable and my physical capabilities were extremely limited.

When I was finally referred to a specialist in my home town, I was informed that surgery was a must—and the procedure for doing so was extremely risky. According to that specialist, the surgery used an invasive approach that required making incisions in both the front and the back. This particular neurologist left my parents and I feeling overwhelmed, helpless and emotionally deflated. So we moved on to get a second opinion. This time we headed to Boston, hoping for a better outlook after meeting the orthopedic surgeon. Let's just say he painted a very bleak picture and described the surgery as near-impossible. He looked at my MRI while we were in his office and the first word out of his mouth was "Wow." He was totally unprofessional, and for a second time, we left crying.

The third neurologist we made an appointment with was from the same hospital in Boston-but we couldn't get an appointment with him until 6 months later, but we made one anyway.

During this time, my aunt had been doing some research on the internet and typed in "spondylolisthesis," and Dr. Antonacci was the first result to appear! We looked into it and although his offices weren't right down the block, we were still willing to give it a try. My mom called Dr. Antonacci's secretary, Chris and explained to her that I had grade 3-4 spondylolisthesis and mom asked if there was a way to meet with him. Well, without hesitation, Chris said, "Absolutely, he'll definitely want to meet with her, is two weeks from today too soon?" Two Weeks?! We had been waiting months in between specialist visits, so this felt like Christmas!

Two weeks later, on July 8th, my parents and I drove 3 ½ hours to his Manhattan office. Let me just say, it was well-worth the trip! Dr. A met with us that morning and we fell in love with him! For the first time, we heard optimism and confidence. Of course there can be complications with any surgery, and yes, sometimes things go wrong—we already knew that; but Dr. Antonacci focused on the positive.

He didn't look at me like a number, or treat me like a "patient with grade 4 spondylolisthesis," he examined me and made a determination based on my body's physical condition. He noticed that my posture was perfect and upright, which isn't normally the case with this grade of spondylolisthesis. He was the first and only doctor to notice that about me! Based on this observation, he determined that he would only need to make one incision through my back without having to manipulate my spine. Already his procedure would be less-invasive by far than any of the other doctor's approaches. Every other doctor I went to treated my case the same as the next patient; they never acknowledged my upright posture, combined with my young age and overall physical health—I was merely another number and operation to them.

Dr. Antonacci barely blinked an eye before he knew the exact procedure he would do for me. His humble confidence in his ability was a breath of fresh air. We never felt rushed by Dr. Antonacci on any occasion. He answered all of our questions with extreme detail and never made us feel for one moment that we were wasting his time or using too much of it. My parents and I felt so thrilled and relieved after meeting with him that we were high-fiving each other when we left his office! All of our searching had finally paid off. We knew we found the man for the job!

We began to get the ball rolling as soon as we met with Dr. Antonacci. Unfortunately, I had many difficulties with my insurance company for months because Dr. Antonacci was out of my network in my health plan—typical health insurance glitches. But that didn't stop his secretary Chris from being one of the most HELPFUL people to deal with throughout every aggravating moment. I had to call Chris with question after question for weeks on end, but she was always cheerful and glad to be of assistance! Bonnie is the other secretary at his New Jersey office and she was just as great! They made every appointment easy and breezy, and many a time—Chris had to do the dirty work and hunt down people from the insurance company numerous times on my behalf. Every person who worked behind the scenes for Dr. Antonacci before, during, and after the surgery was respectful, helpful, friendly, caring, and considerate and the most professional crew my family and I have ever met. Thank you Chris, Bonnie, Joel (for answering all of my crazy questions!), Dr. Sandel (for being so sweet and so awesome!), the staff at the Hospital, and every other person who helped me make it through that week in the hospital after surgery!! I couldn't have done it without all of you!!!! I had my surgery February 9th of this year—without any complications whatsoever! Thank you Jesus!! Dr. Antonacci's cool, calm, and collected bedside manner kept me and my family comfortable and sane throughout the entire experience. It has been 2 months now, and I already feel the changes in body from the surgery, and how they are positively affecting my life. For the first time in a year, I CAN SNEEZE AGAIN!!! AND IT FEELS GREAT!!! I was so nervous to sneeze for the first time after surgery—I was expecting to fall to the floor in pain as an unconscious reaction, but I don't need to anymore! The surgery was worth it for that change if nothing more....But that's not all I've noticed! I've been sleeping great at night without any discomfort, brushing my teeth over the sink doesn't strain my back....and I'm sure there's only more to come! I feel like I have my life back again, and I haven't even started physical therapy yet! I know the road to recovery is long but it is completely worth it—trust me, if you are in the same situation I was—take a chance on Dr. Antonacci!!! Make the phone call—it can only help, and once you meet him, you'll know exactly what I've been talking about. I trusted him with my life, and he didn't disappoint! I know God sent him our way!!

Dr. Antonacci, words can't express the gratitude I feel toward you. There isn't a "thank-you" out there that seems good enough. You've turned what seemed to be an impossible journey into a positive one. My family and I will always remember the way you made us feel each time we saw you and the love and care you extended to us. You're a blessing from above. God Bless you and your staff!

In 1993, at 24 years of age, I injured my back at work. I was told by doctors that nothing could be done because my L5-S1 disc was bulging into the center, towards my spine. The doctors said to collect my workers compensation until it ran out, then collect Social Security Disability and try to make the best of a painful life.

The Chiropractor I was seeing at the time didn't believe them and proceeded to adjust my spine and after 6 months I was able to function quite well, considering where I had been. I couldn't go back to my old job and I was limited as to what and how I could lift but life was pretty good considering the original diagnosis.

In 1998 I suffered a severe muscle spasm. I was in bed for two weeks and it took about three months to recover completely. These muscle spasms became a regular occurrence, increasing in frequency and severity. At their worst, they occurred twice a year with a 5 to 6 month recovery. In August 2008 it happened again but this time the symptoms were so debilitating and unrelenting I truly thought I would end up like the doctors said, collecting Social Security Disability and making the best of a painful life. The pain affected my legs severely. I couldn't walk long enough to do the grocery shopping. All I did was work and lie around.

Then I found Dr Antonacci.

I searched the internet looking for anyone who could help. After all, it had been 15 years since the original injury. Surely someone has found a way to fix this by now, I thought. I came across Dr Antonacci's website and read the testimonials of people just like me. I "Googled" Dr Antonacci and found his name associated with different hospitals and periodicals, all showing him in a good light, so I decided to see him.

It almost seemed like Dr Antonacci didn't want to operate on me. He kept asking about my lifestyle and how the pain was affecting my life. I felt like I had to convince him it was bad enough to do the surgery. After all of the testing and diagnosing, when the day came for Dr Antonacci to decide whether or not he would do the surgery, I was fully prepared to beg him on my hands and knees to do it.

I didn't have too. After more questions about how the pain affected my lifestyle, Dr Antonacci gave me the best news of my life. He would do the surgery.

That day I realized Dr Antonacci was only making sure I had exhausted all other reasonable options before turning to surgery. He only had my best interest in mind.

I had the surgery Jan 9, 2009. It was a complete success. The surgery was a lot harder on me than I expected but it was well worth it. At four months out, I am pain free. My back is still a little weak from the surgery but Dr Antonacci said it would probably take about six months to recover from the surgery.

Everyone throughout the process was a pleasure to deal with. Dr Antonacci's office staff was very helpful and kind. Dr Antonacci gave me my life back.

In October of 2007 I woke up one morning with immense pain in my lower back and unable to walk or move very well. Having played basketball and many other sports from a young age, it was crazy to find out that at 17 years old I woke up and had two herniated disks in my lumbar spine. I was in my junior year of high school; a time where I should have been going to school, searching for colleges, hanging out with friends, and having a great time. Instead I spent from October of '07 until June of '08 debilitated by back pain that radiated down my leg. I spent most of my time lying in bed, being that sitting and walking caused pain after only a short while and was forced to go on half day homeschooling. Every aspect of my life suffered because of my back pain and it was a very stressful time for me and my family.

I saw seven doctors, underwent three cortisone injections by a pain management specialist, and did not receive any relief. When doctors started suggesting surgery my parents and I struggled with what to do and what decision would be the right one to make. I was referred to Doctor Antonacci by a pain management specialist and my first visit with him was May of 2009. Doctor Antonacci evaluated me with a diagnosis of diskogenic back pain which he believed could be fixed with a spinal fusion at both levels. He spent as much time as needed with us to answer questions and reassure us we were making the right decision. Doctor Antonacci was extremely confident and patient with us which helped to ease our minds. I had surgery at the end of June 2009 and with the help of Doctor Antonacci and his staff at the Hospital (Joel!) it went extremely well. Writing this a little over a year since, thanks to Doctor Antonacci I have my life back, I am pain free, and I am able to go off to college! I am extremely grateful to Doctor Antonacci and I cannot thank him enough. Make the appointment — He is the best at what he does.

Dear Dr. Antonacci,

Prior to visiting your office, I had been deathly fearful of touching upon the topic of my spine. I was always miserable because of it, and this feeling worsened when I learned I would have to undergo a surgical procedure. However, coming to your office regularly somehow reassured me. As the day of my surgery was set and fixed and the days drew closer, I wasn't frightened anymore, and I was able to bravely face the ordeal that awaited me.

I'm very glad I had the surgery, and I felt more confident knowing that you would be in charge, along with the many other kind and dedicated doctors who were in the operating room. I have no regrets doing the surgery, and I even enjoyed the slow, numb pain I dealt with for the first month afterwards. I was out of bed after two weeks, and after a year, I could feel the difference when I perform my daily physical activities.

You have been a great orthopedist, Dr. Antonacci, and I'm so fortunate that my mother found you online and set up an appointment for me. I would definitely recommend you if I ever come across a person in a similar situation. Thank you, Dr. Antonacci, for changing my life.

Dear Doctor Antonacci

I am writing this letter to thank you for ridding me of the pain that prevented me from living my life as I always had in the past. I lived with pain for four years before the lumbar fusion surgery. Now, ten months after the surgery, I am working out five times per week, lost twenty five pounds, can play with and lift my two year old, all without pain!

Prior to the surgery, you spent a large amount of time with my wife and I answering all our questions. You explained the procedure thoroughly and gave a detailed description of what the recovery would be like. This helped us to prepare and make the process go smoothly.

After the surgery you spent time with my family answering their questions. When I had questions after going home you called back almost immediately and once even answered the phone directly. This level of care helped greatly during my early recovery.

I can't thank you enough for all your help. If you ever have any patients that want to speak with someone who recently went through surgery, I would more than gladly explain to them my great results.

Thanks Again,
Jim B., New Jersey

Dear Dr. Antonacci:

The intention of my letter today is to deeply and sincerely express my gratitude for the many, many ways you and your staff have assisted, cared, and supported me and my family with my spinal cord injury.

I have come to learn that many other patients experience many of the frustrations I have experienced in getting proper healthcare. Since my work accident, I have encountered endless minutes, hours, and days in constant pain in my neck, shoulder, right arm, entire back and an "endless severe burning sensation" in my left leg. I have experienced a workers comp system that continuously denies testing, thus making it impossible for physicians to properly diagnose a patient upon onset. I have experienced physicians who have told me that I didn't need surgery, although since the day of the accident, I was very confident there was something very seriously wrong and unfortunately, was faced with the possibility of being permanently disabled. Then we found you and your very dedicated team...

In August of '08, upon making first contact with your office, I was so very, very scared, because at that time I still did not have a diagnosis or treatment plan from an accident that occurred in March '07. I was so very, very pleased at the professionalism and kindness I received. Approximately 2 weeks later, my husband and I had our first opportunity to meet you. We were afraid, nervous, confused, unhappy, etc., as my "injury" had now negatively affected every aspect of our lives. I was spiraling towards a deep depression and I was wondering if "pain" was going to be with me every minute for the rest of my life. Our initial consultation with you couldn't have gone better. You listened, you took the time to answer all of our questions, you were direct with your responses, but "kind and caring" in the delivery. We left your office with such confidence that you were the right physician for us. Within weeks, we had a proper diagnosis, treatment plan, and finally restored hope!

It is now Feb '09 and since, you did the work, you know I've had 2 surgeries "back to back" (anterior cervical discectomy-C5-C6- Sept '08) and (posterior thoracic discectomy-T10-T11- Dec '08.) My symptoms have improved greatly since the surgeries. The "burning nerve sensation" lessened immediately in my left thigh, which I was very optimistic to hear was tremendous news. I know I have to learn a lesson or two to learn in patience and that there is a "long road to recovery," ahead but I am confident my treatment plan is fully supported by a committed team effort. I have restored faith for my both my health and my future.

Dr. Antonacci, it is with such great gratitude that I mention the following staff members by name because each of them have also positively effected my life and the life of my family in ways they can't even imagine. They are, in no particular order, of course, you, Joel, Alec, Chris G., Hana, Danielle, Chris B., and Chris P. I am also convinced there are many more support team members "behind the scenes," that I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with. When the pain is so great, patients like me, need even the simplest of tasks to go well. Your staff goes above and beyond to accommodate, support, care, and provide the level of healthcare every patient expects, but finally I was so very, very pleased and grateful to find in you and your practice. You all make a difference in people's lives far beyond what you are aware of. It would be my pleasure and privilege to speak to anyone who might be considering their surgical options. I assure you, they should look no further.

On behalf of my husband, Stephen, my sons, Brendan and Gregory, and myself, we sincerely thank you for giving us a chance at a "restored quality of life." It means the world to our family. You are truly a "lifesaver."
Sincerely, Charon K. Chester, New York. 40 y/o.

Dr. Antonacci,

I would like to take this opportunity and personally convey my gratitude for all that you have done for me and my family. I would also like to extend this thanks to your wonderful staff! You have changed my life. Before my scoliosis surgery I had a 67 degree curve down my spine and life was unbearable. Choosing to have the surgery done was the best decision of my life.

Thanks to you and your generosity the experience was easier on me and my family. Your constant attention to detail and concern for my well-being aided in my speedy recovery. Life has taken a new turn for my family. We are forever grateful for everything. Your professionalism and kindness has surpassed all expectations and I would recommend you to anyone!

Hi, my name is GERARD and I began working at a very young age. All of the jobs involved heavy lifting or,standing long periods of times and bouncing around trucks and driving heavy equiptment. At age 47 I finally could not walk, that was October of 2007. After several doctors, therapist, herbalist, priest, and just about everyone I know giving friendly advise, my sister had called and said her neck operation was a success, and that Dr. Antonacci was great.

So I made the appointment and went in April 2008. Upon arrival to the new York office,I knew this was a good move. After meeting with Dr Antonacci, he explained everything in a way that I not only understood but was very comfortable with it. After all the tests, he determined I needed a minimally invasive L5-S1 fusion. So August 1st we did it. It is know December 15th, and not only my family and friends, but people who have not sen me since the operation cannot believe the change in me.

I'am actually standing up straight. I can walk, sit, and stand. My face looks ten years younger (that's a strecth). So I'am writing...

Thank You, Dr M.DARRYL ANTONACCI,for making me feel like a new man. I believe because of your knowledge, experience, surgical skills, and your concern for people I feel great and I'am getting better every day. I would recommend anyone and everyone to Dr. Antonaci, not only for the above but also for his deep dedication, kindness, humility and his insight for each individual's needs. He also has a very professional and kind staff thaat reflects his demenior. Our family pediatrician just told us that our 16 year old daughter has a slight touch of scoliosis, there is no doubt she will be seeing Dr Antonacci, because to me Dr Antonacci is, what I call an ultimate professional.

Sincerely,
Gerard L.,Wallkill, New York.

My hat is off to you Dr.Antonacci, thus this testimonial...In Sept. 2006,while in Barcelona, Spain; I really developed severe pain in my lower back. When my wife and I returned to the U.S., I embarked on a program to find out what was really wrong with me.

I visited several spine surgeons, who suggested facet injections, epidurals, and then radio frequency rizotomies that were done by two fine pain management doctors, but to no avail.

At age 79, I really did not want to have an invasive procedure, but the pain was only getting worse, and my quality of life went way down hill. At this point, I had to make a decision to have back surgery. After exhaustive investigation, I was advised to see, Dr. Patrick F. O'Leary, in New York City. Doctor O'Leary gave me a thorough examination, reviewed my M.R.I,s, X-rays etc and then called me a week later, and asked me to see his colleague, Dr. Antonacci, for a second opinion.

When I met with the good doctor, I found Dr. Antonacci to be quite sympathetic and he proceeded to give me two options for the surgery. At this point, because he looked young enough to be one of my sons, I asked him to play devils advocate with me. I said, if I were your father, which of the two options would you suggest. He immediately said he would suggest the smaller of the two procedures, which takes approx. one and a half hours. My gut feeling was that he was to be my surgeon... The other doctors had recommended the much larger surgery.

To make a long story short, after going through almost two years of pain and agony, he operated on me at the Lenox Hill hospital in NYC. On June 2, 2008. At this writing I am almost pain free, and walking every day for approx. 1 — 2 miles.

I am indebted to Dr. Antonacci, for giving to me an extension of my life style without the extreme back pain, and would not hesitate to refer anyone to him that needs spine surgery.

Sincerely,
Norman C., West Windsor, NJ, Now 80 years Young.

I know most of Dr. Antonacci's patients come to him having already been told they need spinal surgery and they are hoping that he will tell them otherwise. Well, me and my Mom were the complete opposite. We had been told time and time again that I did not need spinal surgery and that my (95 degree) kyphosis curve could be fixed with physical therapy. We weren't buying it. We found Dr. Antonacci thanks to the internet. We made an appointment with him in his Manhattan, NYC office in March, 2008. I can't even tell you how excited we were to meet him. I will never forget the first thing he ever said to me. He had already seen my x-rays and he knew that he would do my spinal fusion before he even saw my face. He said to me "How tall are you?" and I told him 5'4", he said, "You WILL be taller".

I know this is a testimonial about how AMAZING Dr. Antonacci is but I can't really put words to it. I can't even describe how I feel about him, and every time I see him I can't even remember the questions I had for him. I couldn't begin to tell you how generous he is [volunteering his time at Shriner's in Philadelphia]. If you are reading this you either know how great he is or WANT to know... and my advice to those looking into spinal fusion or any other spinal surgery by Dr. Antonacci is MAKE THE APPOINTMENT!! Just talk to him and you will see for yourself. You will NOT be disappointed with him, he is so confident with himself but not in a cocky-high-school-jock way. I have the highest respect for him and I think he is one of the best people in the entire world! I told you I can't talk about him without sounding like a Kindergartner. I was told that my spinal fusion would take 12 hours and he did it in 4½ . So, if that doesn't make you believe me, I don't think I can convince you to see him.

He is one of the most amazing surgeons I have ever heard of, let alone met.... You probably know, you've probably seen the pages and pages of acknowledgements he has. Honestly, seeing him was the best decision me and my Mom ever made. Just make the appointment would you!?

When I first walked into Dr. Antonacci's office I had been living with extreme back pain and leg tremors for over 4 years. I was told by my other doctors I would just have to live with it and seek pain management. I had all but given up on finding a solution and enjoying the things I loved to do. I happy to say that 2 years later and one successful spinal fusion surgery performed by Dr. Antonacci that I have my life back. I am able to play golf, travel, garden and even pick up my young grandchildren.

My experience with Dr. Antonacci and his staff was excellent. His staff are professional, competent and organized. Dr. Antonacci is one of the most compassionate and sincere doctors that I have had the pleasure of meeting. This illness was one the most traumatic and scary things me and my family have gone through and feel so thankful that my story had a happy ending.

I am a most appreciative patient of Dr. Antonacci, and at age 75 have, perhaps, a slightly different perspective than many of his other patients. Earlier this week I saw Dr. Antonacci in his office in New York for a follow up after surgery at the end of last year. I was armed with X Rays, which he examined and determined to be indicative of a sound recuperation. When he inquired as to how I was feeling, my response was that I feel better and am more pain free than I've been in years.

Until he asked me, I frankly didn't realize just how good I feel! I'm pain free, am recovering my flexibility, and playing lots of golf again. Unfortunately, I'm not hitting the ball as far as I used to, but I can't blame that on him.

In any event, I've had back pain for over 30 years, and had disc surgery back in 1977 or 1978. None of this, as those of us with back pain are aware, gives us a good back — it only removes the source of pain. I was diagnosed last year with severe stenosis, and after several epidural treatments, was told that I was a candidate for surgery. I saw Dr. Antonacci in his office, and less than a week later went in to Lenox Hill Hospital for surgery. By the end of that week I was home.

An unforeseen complication slowed my recovery, unfortunately, but now, some 10 months after surgery, I feel brand new, and have for some time. As mentioned, I'm totally free from pain, have regained most flexibility, and have long been back at work and on the golf course again. My recovery is certainly testimony to Dr. Antonacci's skill as a surgeon. In addition, I found him to be attentive and concerned, with a comfortable and open bedside manner. Nobody likes to have surgery, but if you need it for an orthopedic problem, he is indeed, THE MAN!

Words can't describe how wonderful I feel since I had my surgery and how pleased I am with the outcome. I had a 2 level fusion at L4-5 and L5-S1 and 2 genetic deformities corrected — one in the SI joints and one in the facets. Although I am only 6 months out from the surgery, my quality of life continues to improve daily. Every day I am amazed by the little things I am able to do that I wasn't capable of doing prior to the surgery.

Dr. Antonacci did not jump into performing surgery on me. He exhausted every other option first. I went through nine months of extensive diagnostic testing with an excellent pain management doctor. Only when it was determined that surgery was my only option did Dr. Antonacci decide that surgery was necessary to correct the problems with my back. I am so grateful that Dr. Antonacci took his time and didn't rush into operating on me.

I think it is so important that there be a very good doctor/patient relationship. Dr. Antonacci always answered all of my questions as well as my parent's questions. I have also found him to be a very compassionate doctor in his own quiet way. Another person who should be mentioned here is Dr. Antonacci's Assistant, Chris. She has also been so helpful in getting messages to Dr. Antonacci, and although she is so overwhelmed with work, she will always, with a smile in her voice, help you with whatever problem you may have. It is so comforting to know that I can count on my doctor, as well as his staff, for anything that concerns me regarding the surgery I had.

Like I said, I am 6 months out from the surgery and feeling really good. I basically had no life prior to the surgery (that is how much pain I was in). I am now about 80% pain free. I have regained an enormous amount of movement so that I am able to touch my toes and bend backwards more then I need to for daily activities. I believe that I can get more movement then I have now. My Physical Therapist said that I have more movement then most people get after this surgery, but that could be due to the fact that I did gymnastics for years.

I know that the pain is slowly going away. Everyday it is less and less. One day in the near future I am sure I will wake up and the pain will be gone. So every day I thank God for letting me find Dr. Antonacci.

Since I have scoliosis as well, I know I will be seeing Dr. Antonacci for years to come. Believe me I am not unhappy about seeing him. I just wish I didn't have the scoliosis. However, when I think about this experience it makes me want to cry since never in a million years did I think I would ever have a doctor care about me as much as Dr. Antonacci and the other doctors involved in my treatment. Therefore, I know my care will always be in good hands with Dr. Antonacci.

When I was 17 years old I had a bad ski accident. I hit a fence doing 55 miles per hour, I broke 4 ribs across my back, cracked my vertebra at L5-S1 level and pulled ligaments in my kneecap.

When I arrived to the nearest hospital the x-rays showed the damage to my ribs but luckily for me the Dr.'s there didn't notice my cracked spine... 19 years later that accident finally caught up with me. I always had lower back pain on and off but for the past 3 years it became unbearable. I finally gave up with dealing with the pain and made an appointment with my family Dr. to start figuring out what my problem was. An Mri and X-Rays revealed that I had Spondylolysis. Because I always had great health I was not accustomed to the riffraff I was about to fall into. My insurance company told me I needed to do physical therapy if that did not work which of course it didn't, I then needed to undergo 3 epidural shots in the lower back. That too, didn't work. I was told by at least 4 back dr.s that I was either too young for surgery, to just live with the pain, or gave me a 60% chance of being better. I knew in my heart that if I continued to wait I would meet the right Dr.

My luck finally changed when I met Dr. Antonacci, a family friend referred me to him. My husband took me to his office and it didn't take long after meeting with him that we both knew he was the right Dr.

His confidence was so reassuring, I went from being totally depressed about my current situation to thrilled to sign up for the surgery I needed. I had a minimally invasive back fusion and a cage with 4 screws put into place on May 9th of this year. I did feel an immediate difference in my back afterwards. I walked out of the hospital a day and half later by myself! Truly a miracle, I will never be able to show my appreciation enough to Dr. Antonacci for giving me my life back. Every now and then I break out into tears of joy for my new appreciated health and sense of well being.

My name is John C.and I have 22 years in the NYPD. I was involved in 2 vehicular accidents within four months of each other in 2005. My life began to change. Suddenly, I had pain that ran through my neck in to my arms along with numbness and tingling. I was now hardly able to lift heavy equipment while working. After long hours on the job, I would come home in excruciating pain. Now the job that I loved was becoming a burden. There were some nights where the pain was so bad that I could not sleep. Yard work that I used to enjoy doing left me in pain for days after.

I was seen by Dr. Antonacci in August 2007. Spinal Stenosis and nerve truncation at multiple levels within my cervical region was his diagnosis. Surgery was recommended. I deliberated with myself and my family for almost a year before finally deciding to do the surgery. Dr. Antonacci spent a lot of time explaining the procedure gaining my confidence that surgery was the answer to my pain.

On August 15, 2008 I had a cervical diskectomy and fusion of 3 levels in my neck at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC. I was a nervous wreck. Before even seeing Dr. Antonacci that morning, the nursing staff all praised him for his work. Dr. Antonacci again explained to my wife and I exactly what he would be doing and approximately when he would be done. The surgery went well and as planned. That evening I was really groggy and out of it. On Saturday morning, I was able to get up and walk around the hallway of the hospital. I was worried that my throat would keep me from being able to swallow or talk. To my surprise, I really didn't have any problems doing either. Sunday morning, I was released from the hospital with a cervical collar.

Each day into week, I make more progress then I had ever imagined. After one week, I had no more pain in my arms. The numbness was gone. I was able to take short walks around my block. After two weeks, I went to my appointment with Dr. Antonacci. I was able to stop wearing the cervical collar and begin doing small movements to my neck. Four weeks later, I have more range of motion in my neck and have started physical therapy.

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Antonacci and his staff at the NY office. They are extremely professional and caring. I am recovering quicker than I had ever thought possible. I would recommend Dr. Antonacci to anyone who is experiencing neck or back pain. He has really made a big difference for me. Thank you!

When I was looking for a surgeon, I wanted one with confidence, caliber and compassion. It is very hard to find a doctor with all three of these qualities. If you are in need of surgery and are reading this, you will be one happy patient.

Dr. Antonacci is very honest and upfront with you. I knew two people that had seen him prior to my visit and one needed surgery and the other did not. That was the first sign. An orthopedic surgeon turned down a spine surgery because it was not needed? You hear so much that orthopedic surgeons just want to cut you open and do surgery. I was quite impressed even before I made the appointment.

Calling the office, you will speak to Chris. She is the most caring, organized, and superb person you will ever meet in a medical office. She will take care of all the paperwork for you, always with a smile on her face. Dr Antonacci found an employee that has the same precision that he possesses.

I had scoliosis as a teen and had spinal fusion by another surgeon at age 16. Twenty years later, I am always tired, legs burning, my elbow hurt. I was in a bad mood all the time; I would fall down the stairs. I was going to different physicians getting cortisone shots in different body parts, telling other physicians my back hurt, going to a urologist to fix my bladder, trying to figure out why I looked 5 months pregnant and only weighed 100 pounds. I finally found a sports medicine doctor who took an xray of my spine. This doctor tells me I have spondylolisthesis grade 3. I was informed that I would need surgery immediately and to find a surgeon that knows what he is doing. I never heard of spondylolisthesis nor could I say it.

I had my surgery in January and I do not have all the symptoms listed above. I feel I am "back to life again". I am willing to listen to any one of Dr Antonacci's pre-operative patients and answer any questions.

My name is Caitlyn B. and I was ten years old when I was diagnosed with scoliosis. After two years of chiropractic therapy and not getting any better, my parents decided to have me see an orthopaedic specialist.

After a few consultations, my parents chose Dr. Darryl Antonacci. He made me feel comfortable and I trusted him. Although I was afraid the day of the surgery, Dr. Antonacci did a good job of explaining everything to me and making me feel comfortable. When I woke up from the surgery I did feel pain, but I knew it was temporary and that it would all be worth it in the end.

My family and friends were totally amazed at my speedy recovery. Although a complete recovery takes up to a year, four months after my surgery I was already leading an almost normal life.

I want to thank Dr. Antonacci and his staff for everything they have done to help my posture get back to normal. They have helped me restore my confidence.

Love,
Caitlyn B., age 13, Perth Amboy, NJ.

As parents of a child with scoliosis, you always think something you did caused the curvature in the spine. Our daughter, Caitlyn was diagnosed with a 59 degree curvature.

After a few consultations, we decided to go with Dr. Darryl Antonacci at the Institute For Spine & Scoliosis. He was not only professional but very informative compared to other consultations. He assured us that with surgery Caitlyn would be fine and continue to lead a normal life. We were amazed at how fast she recovered in the hospital. The staff at Lenox Hill and Dr. Antonacci's staff had Caitlyn walking the next day. From that point forward, her recovery has exceeded our expectations to the point where we find ourselves reminding her to slow down.

We as parents recommend Dr. Antonacci. God has truly blessed him with talent and knowledge.

About 2001 I decided to smarten up my property. Several days later there was back pain radiating down my leg. I went to an orthopedist and was told to begin epidural shots in my spine for pain control. I had four and then revisited the doctor. He gave me a prescription for pain. Fast forward it was now January 2007, and stupidly I lifted a TV and felt the crunch in my back. My 12 year old son had to drag me to the living room. After I could stand, 3 days later, I went for more epidurals which didn't work.

Then the big guns...narcotics in very large doses. I put up with this until June 2007, then I went for surgery at another hospital.

Twelve weeks later I had the worst sciatica and related nerve pain anyone could stand and this time I went on a morphine like drug, still no relief. So I got busy finding Dr. Antonacci. I spent weeks researching many others, made 20 phone calls easily. No one seemed to have the information I needed.

Then while hunting on the web I found the "Second Opinion Dr." I didn't think it would change my life, but it did...I have a life now!

I met with Dr. Antonacci and he was the most understanding, friendly, and sensible physician I had ever gone to. We talked, he examined me and I agreed to get tests. After he read the tests, he and I came to a team decision to fix my L4,L5,and S1. His efficient office did all the work. I never lifted a finger, just showed up at Lenox Hill Hospital. I went into surgery with Dr. Antonacci reassuring me that we would beat the pain for good.

I was made very comfortable, had a fantastically skilled procedure and woke up right away. I spent my recouperation time at Lenox treated for post-op pain, fed well, catered to, and watched very carefully by Dr. Antonacci, and his marvelous staff. He promised me that by a certain time I would feel good again.

Within one week of his stated recoup time it happened. I felt great.. I danced with my wife, walked with my son, and began to ride my bicycle.

Today, 7 months after surgery, I ride 24-30 miles a week, if it wasn't for meeting my favorite doctor, I would still have no quality of life.

If you are reading this just know that you've finally found hope in the form of a tremendously skilled surgeon who happens to be a great guy!

I had surgery for Scoliosis ( Harrington Rod and fusion) in 1977 at the age of 15.

Starting in the spring of 2007, I started having severe pain in my lumbar spine and down my left leg. I went to an Orthopedic Surgeon who did some tests. He said that my L4-5 disc was completely compressed but because of my fusion, there was nothing to be done. My only option was pain management.

I then started researching the internet and to make a long story short, I found Dr. Antonacci . I emailed his office and the very next day received a call from Chris, who scheduled an appointment shortly thereafter. Dr. Antonacci's first words to me at my appointment were "so they said there was nothing that could be done? Well, they are wrong.". He made my husband and myself feel completely at ease and Chris is an angel. My diagnosis was Spondylolisthesis and Flat Back Syndrome.

My surgery was performed January 2008 a t Lenox Hill Hospital and although I still have a ways until complete recovery, I feel better than I have in years and can actually stand straight.

Thank you Dr. Antonacci and Chris!!!

For approximately 50 years I suffered from lower back pain and lumbar spasms. As I became older the occasions and duration became more frequent and for longer periods. I had tried everything to avoid the surgeon's table...orthopedic, chiropractic, pain management, physical therapy, etc. Being an avid golfer and spending most of the winter in Florida and summers north there never seemed to be the right time to investigate corrective surgery.

Last January, 2008, while in Florida I awoke one morning unable to get out of bed with severe sciatic nerve pain down my right leg. This was the first time I experienced sciatica. I was unable to sleep and needed help walking. With pain controlling medication I returned north in early February.

To make a long(er) story short, I saw Dr. Antonacci on a Thursday and he operated on my lower spine the following Friday. He successfully corrected two herniated disc conditions and resolved stenosis all in the L4 and L5 areas. I woke up in recovery pain free, came home the next day and have been pain free ever since.

Following his instructions, I did not return to golf for 4 months. He also suggested Pilates as rehabilitation and I continue to attend classes. I now look forward to many more years of an active, pain free lifestyle. Dr. Antonacci, thank you for your expert care and concerned follow up.
Sincerely, Al C., 66 y/o. NYC, NY

In November of 2007 my lower back problems began. At first I had severe lower back pain, but it subsided several days after it began. As I have always been involved in sports and very active, I decided to go lift and play ball with my friends, since the pain was gone. That night I barley made it back to my dorm room. Several days after that I began to experience horrible sciatica down my right buttocks and leg. I had herniated my L5-S1 disc very badly.

Over the next few months I would see countless doctors. I got two epidurals, one in the end of December, and one the beginning of January. They barely helped me. I was constant pain, and was getting by only because of advil and muscle relaxants. At the end of January I decided I would opt for surgery, and the most important thing for me was to find the right one.

The last week of January I went to see several surgeons. Some of them made me extremely uncomfortable because of their pushiness, which made me question their intentions. But after I spoke to Dr. Antonacci I knew he was my guy. He understood what I was going through, and gave me a detailed explanation of what he would do in the microdiscectomy, and all of the risks involved with the surgery (including the percentage of chance for each possible risk). Unlike the other surgeons I had seen, he explained to me that surgery was not necessary, but that it would speed a two year recovery process (or longer) into roughly a month and a half.

On February 11 I had my surgery. I was amazed when I woke up with no sciatica. It was one of the greatest feelings that I have ever experienced. I was walking the same night of the surgery, and it only helped that my overnight stay in the hospital was so pleasant. The nurses and doctors helped me with anything I needed, and I had my own room with TV and everything.

I am now 9 weeks and 2 days out of surgery, and I feel as if I had never had one at all. I am in the gym 6 days a week working out and getting back into shape (lots of core training!!). Dr. Antonacci truly changed my life, and I will forever be grateful.

As an Anesthesiologist, I was looking for a surgeon who could perform the correct operation for my lumbar disc problem with great technical skill. As a patient, I was looking for a surgeon who would explain my treatment options in a way that I could understand as if I were a lay person. A surgeon who would answer all my questions thoroughly, both preop and postop. And most importantly, a surgeon who instilled me with trust and confidence. I feel blessed to have found all of this and more in Dr. Antonacci.

When I met Dr. Antonacci, he was very sympathetic to the agony I'd been feeling for almost a year. He explained his opinion in a way that made sense and made me feel comfortable. After my surgery, Dr. Antonacci was very available to address all of my concerns. And as a bonus, his support staff both in the hospital and office are very caring and competent.

In under 2 months after my lumbar fusion, I was able to walk up to 2 — 3 miles a day without limping anymore. This was something I couldn't have imagined. I'm indebted to Dr. Antonacci for relieving my suffering and wouldn't hesitate to refer any patient to him.

Scoliosis is something I have dealt with since I was eight years old. (I was26 when I had my surgery in 2007). I went to chiropractors, orthopedic doctors and several physical therapists for many many years. It finally came to the point where my option to remain healthy and strong would be lumbar spine surgery.

I first found Dr. Antonacci through my mother's research on a National Scoliosis Foundation newsletter. He was highly recommended and one of the top rated surgeons. He also offered second opinion appointments and this is just what I was looking for.

I had received an opinion from my prior orthopedic specialist however it felt more like I was a product on a shelf then a living person who was going to be worked on. When my parents and I went into the Institute For Spine and Scoliosis we were instantly welcomed and put at ease by his wonderful staff.

Meeting Dr. Antonacci I also instantaneously knew that he was a very kind, steady, knowledgeable and thorough person. And that was exactly what I was looking for.

The whole process from the initial appointment, to being explained the surgical process, to making the appointment for my surgery, to my hospital stay, and to my recovery was made so unproblematic and painless if you will, by Dr. Antonacci and all his colleagues.

Any concerns or questions I had were answered with such a remarkable promptness and care. And I would like to thank them and recommend their care to anyone who may ask because with their help I am able to know I will be strong enough to continue leading a healthy and a very full life.

My son Michael is a handsome, lovable and fun loving young man; he is seventeen years old and is mentally challenged. He has various disabilities and has endured his share of pain in his young life and one of them is him having Scoliosis.

Michael's previous doctors and assistant's were not as compassionate to Michael as Dr, Antonacci. They recommended a brace that he wore for a year, and by the second year it was causing Michael a lot of discomfort, he had rashes and pain caused by what seemed to us an ill fitting brace, and we thought possibly he needed a new one as Michael had grown some during this time. My Husband and I spoke to the Physicians about this, but they seemed not at all concerned. They insisted that he continue to wear the brace as is. Soon afterwards the brace caused Michael's rash on his chest to bleed and we had to go to a dermatologist to have it diagnosed. The last visit we had with them, they had a bad attitude and made us feel very uncomfortable with them. We felt so bad at that point that we decided we were never returning to their office and that we would start from the beginning and find a new Doctor.

Consequently we found and made an appointment with Dr. Darryl Antonacci. From the moment you meet with Dr. Antonacci you can tell he is not only an outstanding human being but also an outstanding Doctor. He listened and addressed our concerns and arranged for various tests to be done. After all of this was done his recommendation was surgery.

We spoke with our son Michael of course, and as a parent you don't want surgery done on your children unless it is absolutely necessary, but Michael was tired of being in pain and of wearing a brace. He wanted the surgery done so that he can could stand straight and not be in pain for the rest of his life. Michael's surgery was performed at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. This was one of the best hospitals I have ever been to. The staff there was outstanding they treated Michael very kindly and they were very attentive towards Michael's needs and recovery. Michael had surgery on August 9th 2006 and was able to go back to school the following month on Sept 8th. Michael will be looking forward to running track this spring with the Special Olympics, this is something that he looks forward to every year and with Dr. Antonacci's care and guidance we are sure he will come out a winner.

Michael and all of us in the family are very happy with Dr.Antonacci and his staff and of course his successful surgery, and we wish to express our utmost faith and appreciation to his professionalism and compassion that he has shown to all of us.

Having scoliosis has never been easy for me. After about three years of pain, I was willing to try anything.

I'd gone to an orthopedist but he didn't seem to care about what was best for me. He told me I was too old for bracing and I felt like he saw that as the only option for dealing with my scoliosis. He never mentioned surgery, which I was prepared to agree to, and it just seemed as though he didn't really know what he was talking about.

I assumed Dr. Antonacci would be similar to him. I was very, very wrong. From the second he walked in the door, I could tell that he was unlike any doctor I'd ever dealt with. He is extremely knowledgeable and to the point. He knows exactly what he's talking about and he doesn't try to avoid tough decisions like surgery. Dr. Antonacci was always upfront about what options I had, surgery being pretty much the only one. He's only interested in what's best for you and I've never had a doctor like that before. He always gave me the impression that he's seen plenty of other cases just like mine so I never felt out of place there. He put my mind at ease about having the surgery and he's the only doctor I would have ever trusted to perform such an intense operation. I never felt nervous or scared about having the surgery because I knew Dr. Antonacci had everything under control. I guess you can say I literally trusted him with my life and I would never have felt comfortable with anyone else doing the surgery.

Surgery was an easy decision for me, thanks to Dr. Antonacci, but the outcome was much harder to deal with than I had anticipated. Surgery is nothing to laugh at. It's extremely painful and the first few days feel like the worst days of your life. I felt helpless and frustrated that even the simple tasks of walking, eating, rolling over, getting out of bed, or going to the bathroom were nearly impossible. But I've never made a more rewarding decision in my entire life.

I have no regrets. It's worth the pain and recovery, which is very speedy I might add, to have my freedom back. I can go through a day now without feeling any pain in my back. I feel like the pain no longer controls me and I don't have to take ibuprofren everyday now for my back pain. You can't look at me anymore and see that I had scoliosis or surgery. I've gotten control of my life and body back and there's nothing more rewarding than that. So I thank Dr. Antonacci for being the caring and wonderful doctor that he is and for helping me get back a life I never thought I would ever have again.

Dear Dr. Antonacci,

John and I would like to express our deep appreciation to you for the care you have shown since our very first visit. As you are aware, John has many medical conditions in addition to the spine and disk problems that brought us to you.

From the first you listened with empathy and understanding. You determined the spine problem and said you could help us. This was a tremendous relief as John has been in constant pain for at least two years and no one else had any real answers.

Because of John's added medical conditions you sent us to doctors that you trusted to determine if John could withstand the surgery. These doctors gave us the confidence to go through with the surgery. This was the only surgery, yet one of many, where because of the pro-active care of the doctors, John did not develop an infection. This was truly a blessing.

We consider John's surgery, done by you, to be a huge success which has given back to him his life. Not only are you very skilled, but considerate, compassionate and caring as well. Words are not enough to express our gratitude to you.

Sincerely,

"IN GRATITUDE"

My tale is one of lumbar area severe back pain with recurring pedal numbness which limited my activities; particularly walking. Many tests and procedures were done without relief.

In my search for a positive approach, good fortune brought me to Dr. Antonacci. Spinal stenosis with nerve compression causing these symptoms were thoroughly explained by him in a calm, definitive and uplifting manner which led me to consider a lumbar laminectomy. The results were fantastic. Severe back pain and numbness disappeared. I am now walking and showing improvement each day. I feel I have gained some quality of life.

I thank you Dr. Antonacci.

Dear Dr. Antonacci & Chris,

Just want to express our deep appreciation to Dr. Antonacci and to his wonderful secretary, Chris Gergo (so helpful & knowledgeable).

We found Dr.Antonacci to be an exceptional surgeon who is caring, sincere, thoughtful combined with professional expertise. From our first visit on, he was always attentive, patience and answered all of our questions and concerns. Many times when we (especially the mom) expressed feelings of anxiety, he had a way of easing the feelings with warmth and humor.

We also would like to commend his wonderful team, as well as the staff at Lenox Hill Hospital -- all of the other surgeons and drs.; In pre-surgery-RN (can't recall name but remember kindness and attentiveness) and Gail in admission and all others; Dorothy, Sarah in Recovery & all others attending to Ummie and both of us; Ellen (PT), Marie (RN), Chi (RN), Tamika, RN,Theresa NA, Rita, NA, Marina RN, Erma, NA, and all of the other RN's and NA's on the 9th floor and others at the Nurses' station; the Maintenance Service employees on 9th floor kept it so clean and germfree; Laundry employees (friendly and always helpful); those delivering flowers and those who helped to find the vases, TV & phone services; those who were in the Main Lobby directing everyone to appropriate floors, the discharge person and the helpful attendee who took Ummie to the car on her departure day and to all who we may have not mentioned.

Ummie was indeed cared for in a very special way which made her stay at Lenox Hill Hospial comforting & hospitable as well as most helpful in the healing and recuperation which is steadily improving day by day.

The team did indeed provide exceptional care to make Ummie's stay in Lenox Hill Hospital a very special and valuable one.

God bless.

This is what Dr. Antonacci did for me:

I have worked as an engineer all my life and consequently spent most of my time behind a desk. I have however always taken pride in keeping my body in good shape with daily exercise, hiking, skiing and snorkeling.

In October/November of 2006 I developed some serious back/spinal problems with pain so severe I was unable to function.

To alleviate the problem I had Laminectomy Surgery in November 2006 elsewhere to no avail. With zero help from epidurals and very strong painkillers I was almost ready to give up, when I "found" Dr. Antonacci.

His approach to my problem appealed to my "engineering mind". With the aid of several MRI pictures he spent a great deal of time explaining in detail what he planned to do. He gained my full confidence to go ahead with what he recommended: Revision decompression and spinal fusion.

When I regained conciousness after surgery, the pain I had endured for 9 months was gone!

Six weeks later I do daily walks of 1½ miles, I am back driving, and my wife and I even went from Huntington, Long Island to NY City by train. Dr. Antonacci has literally given me my life back.

I suffered back pain on and off for many years. Last year the severity of my pain increased and I had difficulty walking.

I met Dr. Antonacci for a consultation and I was immediately impressed by his mannerism, sincere care, professionalism, and clear explanation of my condition -- L3-L4 spondylolisthesis with herniated disk and stenosis. He suggested several options available to me, however, he explained that I would eventually need spinal surgery. In fear of surgery, I hesitated and waited for a few months until came a day where my condition deteriorated to a degree where I could no longer walk. Dr. Antonacci responded quickly, rearranged his schedule, and immediately performed a s lumbar decompression and instrumented fusion surgery on my back.

I consider myself lucky that I put my health in his hands. I no longer have any pain in my leg; I no longer walk with any difficulty whatsoever.

Dr Antonacci is a fantastic surgeon and I would recommend him to anyone. Dr. Antonacci, thank you for taking such good care of me.

Working in the office all day, bartending part time at night, working on the house, carrying anything and being stubborn can all be reasons for my back injury. I am sure playing football and weight lifting in my past did not help my back too much either. After a year of visiting many doctors, chiropractors, surgeons and pain specialists, I met Dr. Antonacci. At this time I had been in pain for over a year causing neurological and psychological issues. I just wanted someone to tell me they could fix me.

Several surgeons just kept telling me to continue physical therapy and really never helped me in anyway. Dr. Antonacci explained to me and my wife exactly what was wrong and provided us with answers. He was professional, caring and extremely patient. He was the first doctor in over one year that we felt very trusting and comfortable with. On September 8, 2006 I had fusion on L5 S1 by Dr. Antonacci and his staff at Lenox Hill Hospital. This was my first time ever having any surgery and Dr. Antonacci and his staff were excellent.

Before surgery I was a crying zombie. Today I am back at work and going to the gym doing exercises. I still have some muscle related pain but I see a light at the end of the tunnel. Dr. Antonacci at first was just my surgeon. He has helped me and my mother who he also diagnosed correctly with a shoulder issue. Now he is not just my surgeon he is a friend for life. I would recommend him to everyone.

I see him as totally professional, yet with a very soothing bedside manner. He is not afraid to prescribe the necessary tests needed, but he also explains the results until I understand them.

He displays humility. How? I can ask him questions pertaining to my conditions and he never makes me feel as if I am bothering or annoying him, a quality well displayed. His expertise as a surgeon is awesome. I can say that Dr. Antonacci gave me a new beginning with the excellent surgical performance on my cervical and lumbar portions of my spine.

In my opinion, he is the Top Spinal Surgeon, and I would refer anyone to him who has spinal disabilities. And finally, he is the best and I love him as a friend and as a medical professional.

Skilled, Compassionate, Accountable. These are my observations as a grateful patient of Dr. Antonacci over the past 4 years. As a school teacher with 45 years of experience, I was plagued with debilitating back pain that compromised my ability to continue in the job I love. After receiving many recommendations for a spine surgeon, one name kept being mentioned: M. Darryl Antonacci. I had my surgery in the winter of 2004. While no back surgery is simple, Dr. Antonacci`s ability, as well as that of his medical assistant, Chris Gergo, to understand my needs and address my concerns in an easily understandable way, instilled in me confidence and trust about my decisions and my doctor.

Post-surgery, Dr. Antonacci never missed a beat. His earnest follow-up was consistent, thorough, practical and, most of all greatly appreciated. Now, as I near my 50th year of teaching, I thank Dr. Antonacci and know that when I decide to retire,I can do so and enjoy a full and active life because of his work.

I had a severe car accident in 1991 and lived with back pain for years. My first really bad episode was in 2002 when I bent over and the pain was so bad I dropped to my knees and had to call 911. I was out of work for three weeks. Over the next few years, the episodes kept getting closer together and the recuperation time got longer and longer. I tried all the conservative approaches: Bed rest; Physical Therapy; and Epidural shots. Nothing gave me long term relief. My local Orthopedist kept telling me it was all muscular and there was nothing he could do for me. It got to the point where I couldn't go to work without taking pain pills.

I got an appointment with Dr. Antonacci who, upon looking at my MRIs for the last 3 years, saw immediately that I had an annular tear in one disc and severe degenerative disc disease in two discs. After additional diagnostic tests to confirm his diagnosis, the recommendation was surgery. I had spinal fusion June 24th, 2005. I am now pain free and don't take pain pills to get through my day. I can't thank Dr. Antonacci enough for giving me back my life!!

I've had a slight herniated disc for many years which periodically caused me great pain. This past summer, I missed a step on a set of stairs and jarred my back. I started to lose strength in my right leg and it was also going numb. I had an MRI and went to a local Orthopedist who gave me a cortisol shot. It wasn't improving so I went to my wife's surgeon, Dr. Antonacci. One look at the MRI and he saw that a piece of disc fragmented off and was sitting in my spinal canal indicating this was the cause of the numbness and weakness. Less than a week later Dr. Antonacci removed the disc fragment and the symptoms almost immediately started to dissipate.

I am five months out of surgery and feel better than I have in years!! Thank you Dr. Antonacci.

Dr. Antonacci is a very fine good man. I feel great. Dr. Antonacci is the sweetest thing. My surgery was successful. He did not put on airs and act like a highly successful surgeon. I liked best of all that he did not sit behind a desk and talk to me. He talked to me like a Dutch uncle in the the examination room.

Dr. Antonacci was was extremely thorough and made sure that I exhausted all other options before considering surgery. He's very empathetic. He listened to my questions and concerns and addressed all of them. He's able to describe procedures and anatomy in lay terms. He always returned my phone calls promptly, which was really difficult to find in other doctors. He did a fantastic job with my spinal fusion. My recovery is going well and I'm able to do things that I couldn't do for over a year prior to surgery.
