Dr. Anthony Chiurco, M.D.
Anthony Alfred Chiurco, M.D. is a Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery since 1977. He received his M.D. degree at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1967. Following an internship at the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, he spent two years with the United States Public Health Service, followed by a General Surgery and Neurosurgical Residency at the University of Iowa from 1970 to 1975. He was subsequently a Fellow in Neurosurgery at the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, with emphasis on spine surgery and micro-neurosurgery.
Dr. Chiurco is an attending neurosurgeon at Capital Health System Helene Fuld and Mercer campuses, The University Medical Center at Princeton, Hunterdon Medical Center, and St. Francis Medical Center. He has served as Chairman for the Surgery Department of Capital Health System (Helene Fuld and Mercer) as well as Chief of Neurosurgery at the University Medical Center at Princeton for over twenty years. He has served for many years as a neurosurgeon to the New Jersey State Police.
Dr. Chiurco is named annually among America’s top surgeons by the Consumer Research Council of America since 2002. He has been recognized by New Jersey Monthly Magazine as a Top Doctor in New Jersey and also been named among the Top Doctors in the New York-Metropolitan area.
Dr. Chiurco is a member of numerous medical and surgical societies including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons. He has served as President of the New Jersey State Neurosurgical Society. Dr. Chiurco is an active participant in the management of spine injuries, particularly with the U.S. Rowing Association. He has performed lumbar disc surgery on many athletes on the U.S. Olympic rowing team. He has performed over 6,000 major intracranial and spinal operations, with particular attention to brain tumors, cerebral aneurysms, herniated cervical and lumbar discs and spinal stenosis.
