Zoey’s ASC Scoliosis Story

“If I hadn’t done my research Zoey would have been braced until she quit growing and then to fused her from the top to the bottom leaving her with no flexibility. The ASC procedure works while she grows :)” – Holly (mother)

At 6 months she’s back in the gym full time and competed in 1 meet so far this year.

What was your reaction to the scoliosis diagnosis?

Devastation! It was the week before Zoey’s Indiana State competition and after 8 months of backaches and pains we decided to reach out to a local chiropractor to see if we could get some relief. Without even touching Zoey we were told she had scoliosis and would need to confirm with an X-ray. The following week Zoey and I were sitting in an office at a local children’s’ hospital having her x-ray explained to us and told the only hope we had was to have Zoey’s spine fused. Zoey and I immediately left the office and headed to the gym to talk to her Coach where it was a large cry-fest. Zoey’s been a gymnast since she was 2 years old and has put in all her time and weekends to practice her craft.

What was your ASC post-op recovery period experience like?

6 weeks after surgery Zoey started with ilab where she worked with Alisha once a week for 9 weeks preparing her to go back to the gym and gain her strength back.

Have you resumed all activities?

At 6 months she’s back in the gym full time and competed in 1 meet so far this year.
